sorry, it actually is a heruurscience HeNe so i thought it would be appropriate.

It's on the front of the power supply in nice big black writing. It's not that hard. But maybe you can't read, I don't know ?

Regards,

Adam

My thread got jacked. sniff, sniff....

No worries. I can see why Whatsupadrian would think it appropriate but I might have asked AFTER trying 5V in red wire etc....

Seeing as you're here Whatsupadrian, post some pics when you get it fired up. Can you make them a bit smaller though?

One of the two hene lasers I got, cleaned and powered.

Couple questions:

Off the limiting resistor is another red cable that just terminates. What is it's purpose and is it necessary?

Also, How much can I Lengthen the wire from the anode to the limiting resistor?

You want to keep the distance from the resistor to the anode as short as possible, but you should be able to increase the length between the psu and the resistor.

The second capped wire may have been used for a second laser or some kind of feedback system, but in your case it doesn't really need to be there

Why don't you just insulate the HV wires ? otherwise, I'll give you £5 for it.

Yeah gas lasers will do that if you go poking around while it's powered up. Either insulate the wires or just don't touch it while it's running :p

Seriously??

A HeNe shock isn't very bad... it'll make you jump but it's not gunna kill you. Maybe keep the laser and make a nice enclosure for it, and put this in the 'lessons learned' book to be careful around high voltage stuff :D

I just think it's kinda silly that you want to get rid of the laser because it shocked you....

That looks like a Helium Neon gas laser with a 110V power supply...

You would connect one of the White wires to the Neutral (white) of the 110VAC
power... The Yellow wire to the Hot (black) of the 110VAC power and don't forget
to connect the Green wire to AC Ground.

Remember... that after you connect the Tube to the PS and power it up..
when you disconnect the 110VAC from the PS the Tube still holds a charge for
quite some time..:yh:

Jerry

Hey, is it really necessary to use the green ground? I mean I found a cord with the 3 wires, but one of the prongs (ground) was cut :p

I hook up the cables, and the thing is dead :p It won't fire up :p Shame too, I really like this one :(
