Too much spam, site could use "CAPTCHAS"

It's really none of my business, but I think this site could use some
protection from bots, hence captchas.
At least one at registration, I don't remember seeing one, I might be wrong though...
Maybe even for posting...

I don't know if it is that much trouble setting up,
but every day there are obvious spammers (bots or flesh) new on this board.

IIRC there is either a captcha or a question.

All new registrations have to be approved since 2 days ago, however we're really only checking for proxies. It's hard to tell if they're spambots.

captchas are easily broken by spam bots, but they can't solve registration question (there are some exceptions)

sometimes desparate spammers will manually register though which is hard to stop.

most of recent spam i see is people manually registering and adding some comment in their signature for spam

If you've ever done any other forum lurking, you'd see we have the spam under control. This is a huge membership forum. The random spam is a fraction of 1% total. This is good. There is no way to defeat spam entirely. I think we are doing a great job. A lot of us, myself included, also help with spam monitoring.

Well yeah compared to many other forums, it's not really that bad...
Compared to a few others, it could be better.
Then again, I think this forum in particular makes for a desirable spamming target
for all those chinese gadget stores selling pens.

I just noticed 2 or 3 fresh spam accounts over the last two days, and I reported
them and now they're gone, so yes the mods are doing a good job of taking
care of whatever makes it's way trough the registration process.

Captcha is terrible! I've got excellent vision and I cannot figure them out most of the time, and I swear I'm not a bot! (maybe that's my problem?)

... I cannot figure them out most of the time...
RE-CAPTCHA! ;)
Seriously though, I can see that many users would oppose captchas, but I think
it would also cut down the number of 1-liner posts.
People wouldn't post so often unless they actually had something to say.

Oh well, who am I to bicker, this forum's still pretty neat in terms of
quality for a forum this size.
