Just a moment.. Does this mean these diodes have neither the negative nor the positive leg at the base?

In that case, this would make them easy to use with some drivers, that do not allow grounding of the negative output connection. Is this correct?

Yeah, i checked the pics in the first post and it's true! This is great! I can use a "simple" current regulated boost circuit to make these work in a tiny 1xAA host.

The longterm diode has been running solid for over a week now with no signs of giving out. my stinking aixiz modules need to hurry up so I can put my toys together!

Yes.
This is interesting: they're simple to harvest, they are among the best violets available in any form, and they're case-neutral... sounds like these sleds were designed for diode extraction and use in various projects!

ok, which one of you is Microsoft's DVD hardware engineer???

I'm a physics undergrad at the University of Arizona. My professor and I are in negotiation with a local company for a deal to help design and build a prototype system for writing holograms. I can't give too many details since these start up type companies are fairly careful about their ideas getting out, but the holograms are designed to 'focus' light onto solar cells to increase efficiency and decrease cost. They need a system that can deliver about 2-3 watts of 405 light onto the writing surface to get the speed they want. We have been running some tests and gathering info on what is available in the market right now to try and get them to contract us.
 
I can't wait to see what kind of diodes Microsoft's Xbox 360 Blu-Ray player will have (It releases in November).

Sorry, I'm too lazy to read through this thread again... Did you say that was at 100mA with no heatsinking?

This is fascinating. I have always been intrigued with the ability to make a hologram of a lens, though from what i hear diodes are notoriously unreliable for making holograms, especially at high powers. You need an incredibly clean and stable output to do it, usually requiring a peltier with a temp feedback system that updates many times per second. Sounds like a very ambitious project.

90mA with no heatsinking other than the one it sits in on the sled.

Well, it's not really a hologram of a lens. I don't know how much I'm allowed to say, but the company discusses a bit about it on their website if you want to know more. http://www.prismsolar.com/

All the diodes will be actively cooled and mode stabilized probably using a master/slave arrangement or Fabry-Perot etelons. I'm really glad I don't have to pay for all of this haha. I am guessing that the prototype will cost us upwards of $10k to put together. This isn't too bad though since theyre paying like $5k per 300mW 453nm blue they have right now.
