Well, I ordered a couple of the PHR-803T from psxboy. Still bitter I blew the one I harvested, but after getting a look at 50++ mW of violet I must have another.

Got mine from PSXBOY today and it is confirmed the PHR-803T unit... Unfortunately I can't dissmantle and test it for you guys, wish I could but i'm not that lucky...

So now they are sending out both models as one?!? This sucks!

I made my order on 29.04. and someone who ordered on that day got DT0811, but i didn't pay untill the 05.05. like you, so my order was sent out on 07.05.

Of course this doesn't mean anything, but i'll just hope for the best. God, this is bad. And they are not responding to e-mails. I've sent several, and nothing yet.

I may have missread his post, but I believe he meant that he check two units and they were the right thing, not that he checked all the units and only two were right...

Are you talking about the guy who got all five as the wrong unit? I don't know, but by the way things are looking, he may have ordered the wrong thing. Who knows? As unfortunate as it was, at least people are getting the right sleds now...

A little update:

I ended up running the lower powered diode for about 2 hours at 60mA, even taking it as high as 105mA for a few seconds, its still alive and working fine. This was in no heat sink at all. After the 2 hours it was pretty hot, but not hot enough to burn or anything like that. I could still hold it in my fingers just fine. I dont have an LPM... But if things pan out right I should have a decent one in the near future.

Any other ideas on what I should do to this diode?

Looks like you have one of the low powered xbox diodes. My bluray uses one of these, and I'm happy with it (@ 35mA). From your earlier pictures it looks like you did not completely extract the diode from the housing. Does your diode project a spray of violet and yellow around the spot?

I got a defective XBOX HD-DVD drive off ebay, and wired up the diode. It is an 803T and I've tried driving it up to 100mA which is about 5.5V, but I'm not getting a tight beam. I wonder if its a bad diode? Or do other people get crappy beams?

Actually, yes. The one 803T I got working I was not able to get a good focus on. It was elongated, strange. Also, my diode was funky. Something was loose in it and the output would jump often when I tapped it. It's possible I damaged the diode extracting it, however it's also possible these are somewhat damaged high power diodes which are still good for use as readers.

I tried both a single element Meredith lens (ldc10), and a three collimator lens assembly - was not able to get a good focus with either.

It's interesting, with the two 'low' power xbox diodes I harvested I was able to get a very tight focus in the spot (and speckly too), despite the spray. the higher power 803T had less spray, but I could never get a good focus with the spot.

I'm hoping it was a problem with my diode, I've got two more on the way.

Received my order from PSXBoy but all 5 are the DT0811 :-[! I placed this order on the 4-29-08, so has anyone order after this date and received the PHR-803T ones?

I ordered on the same day as hydro, but i paid on the same day as Dr_Lava.. I wonder what i'll get..

Oh, and i don't see how hydro could have ordered the wrong ones, as the wrong model is not officially available on psxboy.. They probably think it's a simple substitute, and for all original intents and purposes, it is..

But i wrote several e-mails to them asking about this, if my company can get a larger amount of 803s and that i can't take the 0811s, but they don't reply.

I dunno... there's this funny heiroglyphic on the back of the diode, that I can't quite focus on... going to have to get out the dissecting scope to read it.
