MGL-F-532 2.8W(A.K.A The Monster)

MGL-F-532.jpg

To all those who have been waiting in anticipation the Monster has finally arrived and with it another high powered 532 unit to join LPF members! With the help of diachi I managed to get this unit set-up and working properly. I would like to mention a few things however. I originally had no clue how to get this unit running as I was expecting a Plug-&-Play system, however this PSU and system was an AnalogOEM set-up and I was stumped. Starting to become sad I reached out to diachi who informed me of other ways to get this thing going and we ended up using....... 3 C2's batteries to power a $1,200 laser! Yay  Seriously though, I am glad we have the helpful members we do or can easily help others with problems they aren't familiar with. Now, this unit is rated to produce 2.8W's at 5V of power. With 3 C2's im pushing around 4.5V but this unit is still plenty powerful as you'll see below.

I took a couple of daytime shots(with iPhone 6) showing the laser, safety label and most importantly the beams! The brighter ones are with fog which really isn't needed for such a powerful laser honestly but wanted to try it anyway. The brightness on this thing is insane and it dosen't quite justify it with the cell phone camera and aluminum but believe me, it is! The beam is visible in mid-day in a lighted room and becomes stunning in the dark, almost like a solid line of 532 particles flying in a straight line! Now this particular model is the F model from CNI, which if you didn't know sits right between the smaller FN model and bigger N model. This particular unit is used for power levels of 1.5W-2.5W of 532nm so I have the highest powered unit in this group, pretty exciting!

Now, this was just to quickly give a resume, not so much a review. Enjoy this beast which may look harmless at first but you better back away when it awakes!

Ya gots ta make the pics smaller... or just 2 wide or

The text is twice as wide as my Computer screen.
I want to read this...
Check back later.......

BTW... isn't more than one written Feet...

[EDIT] pics 2 wide is better....

Thanks for the mention and the quick review. That looks awesome! :D

Quick correction - the modulation wires you hooked up with my help don't actually power anything, they just control output power with a 0-5V analogue signal. :) Just a technicality really... but I like technicalities.

@Jerry, sounds like you need a bigger monitor ;)

Awesome Hap! Luckily 5 VDC isn't too hard to come by if you need an inverter. Those really high power DPSS lasers are definitely rare in the hobbyist realm.

I do think it's a bit funny that just about this time last year you gave up on lab lasers and sold all of yours off though. I guess that wouldn't stick for something this impressive. :D

If you can find the location, a liquid sky effect outside would be amazing.

Thanks Rivem! Yes, it is odd haha :yh:

Congratulations Alex.
What an amazing beam, such a powerful ray.

Now you've got me searching for one.

Cheers mate, thanks for the pics.

Alkaline batteries lmao

Looks sick!
Put a scanner in front of it, it would make a great projector!

Lol, yes. 3 C2 Duracell batteries for a $1,200 laser lolololol :crackup::crackup: :yh:

Edit: Thanks for looking RB!

Nah... When my eyes go... maybe..:p

Yeah... looking at the pics I was wondering how those
small batteries were powering that Laser and Driver...

For a long-term solution, you should go and buy a 5V wall adapter off ebay or something. Other than that, everything looks great. That thing is definitely a beast, both in looks and performance.

Thanks! I am thinking of just getting a PSU-H-FDA supply from CNI in the future. Then I simply turn on and boom, done no messing around :yh:

Congratulations on getting and powering a near 3 watt DPSSL. I'm envious! Tried to rep you but it told me I couldn't rep more than one person in the thread even though I hadn't given enyone reputation on this thread. Sorry. I'll try to make it up somewhere else.

Awesome Alex! So the five volts powers the switch or something? Not the laser? I guess that is 120v?
