The Monster(MGL-F-532 2.8W) Feat: diachi

Awesome Alex!

Congratulations on getting and powering a near 3 watt DPSSL. I'm envious! Tried to rep you but it told me I couldn't rep more than one person in the thread even though I hadn't given enyone reputation on this thread. Sorry. I'll try to make it up somewhere else.

Thanks guys! I am amazed too paul, and don't worry about it :yh:

3 C2's batteries to power a $1,200 laser! Yay

You don't actually think/believe the 3 C2 batteries have anything to do with powering the 2.5W laser output directly---right?

The analog modulation of 0 to 5V just controls the PSU power level to the laser --analog means that with a modulated input you can modulate the power of your laser from no output to full output.
Example 5v is full power and the lower you go the less powerful it is ---is widely used in projectors for color mixing or in a light show you can use it to vary the output with an audio or other modulated signal.
TTL modulation is just full on or full off and used in RGB projectors for example.

Maybe get a variable/fine adjustable 0 to 5volt power supply-- then you can control the laser output over a range from no output to full without having to buy a PSU-H-LED laboratory grade adjustable power supply--would give options besides full power green light on or off--options of doing other things with a full range of different output powers rather than just on or off at full output power.

Glad you got it working---it is very "powerful" visual perception wise as you would expect form a 2.5W 532nm --enjoy it--be careful.

Hoping for outdoor beamshots at the sky! Be careful for planes though.....:D

Congrats on the new unit Hap :D, but we really need some more pics, a shot looking down the beam back at the laser ( far enough from the beam that you don't get flooded by lens flare ) really shows off the beam quality and makes a nice pic.

Did you say what the beam diameter and divergence is? I may have overlooked it.

Thanks Red! Pulling off from the CNI website the beam diameter is ~2.0 at aperture and divergence is <1.2mRad :yh:

I'll take more pictures soon! :yh:

 Awesome laser Hap. Love the burn mark, it's lovely and round. :D Also your room was nearly solid green. I think need a lovely;... but safe, nightshot outdoors. :p Advice, don't keep it on long. You may draw attention to yourself. :D

Thanks Curtis! I'll take some beam shots down the aperture once my googles get here :)

Awesome Alex! So the five volts powers the switch or something? Not the laser? I guess that is 120v?

The 5V input for the modulation just controls drive current between the set off and max set current , no power is drawn from the modulation input , maybe a few mA

The Actual diode driver and TEC is probably 12v and 5v that supplied from a SMPS , that's what my 1.5W had .

looks awesome Hap. very green :D

Dash apple, what is going on in your avatar? I am mesmerized by it @_@

Finnally, Hap has gone to the other side and has some power!

Haha yes indeed! I just have to remind myself to be careful with lower powered lasers still. It seems like everything not this Monster is eye safe

Yes, that is a huge problem. Your perspective can completely alter after you get a higher power laser. This is another reason why you have be careful with Class 4's.
