Stupid Teenagers with lasers

Yep all the idiots will want this "as a party trick" We will see people blinding them selfs soon on the News: "I didn't know it was that dangerous" "we were just messing around"...

I see this far to often on youtube. People will buy lasers for a cool "trick" without any knowledge of laser safety :yabbmad:

I hope they have "Reasons" to not call the police or anything else to draw attention to there dumbness. and we get a few more good years for the laser hobby before then idiots get it regulated to death

I think that prediction can be measured in months rather than years.

Yeah. It's only a matter of time before someone does serious damage while messing around with a laser.

Do people not get it.
Your eyes are worth Certified laser goggles.

To show you how good these are im going to shine it directly in the direction of my eye :/

thanks a lot for the info, i'm tired of being blinded by my 200mw red laser and 50mw green laser lol
Idiots taking advice from idiots.
I flagged the vid, I hope youtube takes it down soon.

well i don't own any lasers :( yet but i will soon, i am going to get the dragon lasers spartan series 1W 447nm laser. yes it IS my first laser and i know that it is according to some, not a good idea to get such a powerful laser as a first, but i only have room in my budget for one, and i figure that i may as well go big or go home. i will be purchasing at least two pairs of glasses, and the laser will be treated as one would treat a gun. batts stored in one place, laser in another, and end cap in yet another place, all under lock and key. i cant wait. oh, and i am 19, but not another stupid teenager. i fully understand that the laser WILL blind in a millisecond, and cause sever burns. also i am aware that it can travel miles and still mess stuff up. i want to change the way people view teens in this day and age. i am a radio amateur, people have said multiple times that "teens have no business doing such things" but it seems unfair one or two people can ruin somthing for a whole group. I know im preaching to the choir, but it needs to be said.
*The End*

^^^Welcome to LPF:)

Sounds like you've give some thought to safety and are aware that the laser can do irreparable damage in an instant.

Couple of things;

This is a nice intro, but you may want to delete your current post and put a thread in the Welcome section instead.

Last detail... you may want to instead buy from a forum member on here. You will get a more powerful laser for quite a bit a less, and with much faster shipping.

ok, thank you so much for the information. i will consider buying off of the seller that you suggested, its over 100 dollars cheaper than the dragon lasers laser, and thats before shipping is added in. it looks like a good deal

I wrote them a nice letter

ALL lasers have a warning sticker saying not to look into the beam. People like this kid are the reason that responsible people like those on laserpointerforums.com will soon not be allowed to have lasers.

Almost all of the websites that sell high powered lasers have a long warning on the website. Dealextreme.com will not even ship a laser >5mW into the Unites States.

I also can't believe that this kids parents did not know about this. 150mW lasers aren't an easy thing to find in a local store. If this kids parents allowed him to order one of these online then something is wrong there.

Go to wickedlasers.com and look at the safety warning for the Arctic. If you did what this kid did with that while not wearing googles, then you have it coming.

Go to dealextreme.com, a site that would be extremely attractive for a 15 year old because of it's good prices and try to order a 150mW laser in the U.S.

Type "paypal lasers" into Google. High powered lasers are quite hard to order in the U.S.

The fact that this kids parents were unaware of him owning the laser is not "lack of government control" as you called it, rather lack of parental control.

There is no question that it was at least in great part parenting failure. I mean where did this kid get a credit card to order? How about also being a little concerned about their kid getting a package from china?

Just as there is a need to teach kids a sense of right and wrong, of morality, there is also a great need to explain what is dangerous and what isn't. The latter part is often absent.

Just saying, bullfrog, I'm absolutely sure that if you bought a 10mw green from ebay, you will be satisfied with your purchase as they are still pretty visible, the beam is easily seen at night and for $8-10 and for a laser that is safe to look at the dot on a wall, I think everybody on the forum here has atleast one of these low powered green pen lasers.

ok, maby i should have been more specific. when i said i didnt have any lasers i was unclear. i meant i didnt have any high powered lasers. i do own a green laser pen and a few red ones. i am quite impressed with the green. it doesnt really impress my friends/teachers tho, thats why i am looking into a more powerful laser, also i enjoy wood burning, and i figure that would be a neat twist on is.
