Spyder III Krypton Laser – Power Readings and Battery Current Draw

You mean the links? Yes they were there...

The motive was not to advertise, but just to try to be informative.

I always put links in my threads if you have noticed.

With this post, it was a little different, in that I had the laser about a month before I posted. So I actually wrote the information ahead of time, and had it in a Word doc, that I just copy and pasted...

The Facebook link for example, was there because at first, you could only get the laser by signing up through Facebook. Then that changed, and it became available on their site.

It doesn't matter what company, I would have put a link trust me...

My bad :beer:I didn't mean to sound so accusing. I'll drop it now :shhh:

To date, there are only two decent reviews on LPF of this laser...

Were the lasers cherry picked? Maybe, we'll never know.

Can the word of a trustworthy member who's sold and bought thousands and thousands in laser related equipment independently be bought for one 1k laser?

I think not.

For the record, some of that information you listed, I touched on in the first post:

* Beam size - I talked about the beam size and how it compared to three other lasers.

* Picture of the beam - I show a nice beam shot there.

Hi Jay. I dont want to debate back and forth like before, but you're being vague.

You talked about beam size compared to lasers most people dont own. And you even said you didnt measure it. All you said is its better than one, but not as good as the other. That says nothing because we dont have a measurement.

Beam shot is passable, but thats the only picture, and its small, and far. How about some spot shots? How about video of the laser working??

I'm really not trying to be an ass here, I just want more info. Am I wrong for asking this?

Doesnt anyone else want more info??? Because I'm looking like an asshole here. We are laser enthusiasts, no? Its a freaking $1000 1W green laser thats new to the market, and no one wants to know the usual questions? What happened to the science? WTF is wrong with you people?

His word was never in question? He likes the laser, I believe him. Send me a free 750mW green laser, and I'd like it too. His word has nothing to do with it. We are suppose to be into the science of lasers. I'm starting to think all the BS the guys say about us at PL are true.

Mike is actually doing a better review, and he bought his.

I suppose it's a matter of a difference of opinion but it certainly felt to me like credibility was called into question a few times. Per Jay's request above, let's not argue about it.

TJ, I really did try and make an informative post about the laser...

There are certain things that I don't want to do though. Like take it apart to see what's inside, or even run it for more than 1 minute duty.

I do feel that I have given many 'first question' type of answers, and also some other good information...

Edit: One thing I did mention about the beam, was that I focused it to my liking. It was not focused that great when I got it. I susspect that it was purposely set that way so that it gave the best performance with the different lens attachments. (expanded lens kit)

This is just a guess. Because I did not test the lenses in the expanded lens kit. I just focused it to the way I like it. Which is 'best dot at about 40' distance'.

Not sure if Mike is doing his testing with an 'out of focus' unit, or if he had to focus his as well, but I'll ask...

To be honest, I didn't see a way to focus it. I read about it here but I haven't tried anything. The burning lens in the kit seems to close to be useful. The expander lenses appear to be diverging lenses while the burner is ~ 2" FL Magnifier.

Did you use pliers to rotate the lens holder?

I am also limiting my runtime because I have always considered a portable as a short run device and the cells run down quickly. If you want long duty cycle CW power, Get a labbie.

Thanks for your reply Mike!

Yes I used some needle nosed pliers to focus it.

Fortunately, mine was not glued, and it was easy to turn the lens to get it focused...

I may now try focusing it (using low power) but so far I'm happy with the beam. I still need to measure divergence and will then know more about beam characteristics. My low power is ~75 mW which is nice for adjustments. High power is just to dangerous to risk my eyes.

I posted beginning data on the beam in my review. It got too dark and cold to continue. Jayrob may be right about focus. I will try tweeking it after I get my 200' reading to match with the 30' test.
Hmike

Did anyone ever test a HERC for divergence and mode?

Yeah Mike the first thing I noticed was that the divergence looked bad, but I found out that it was just out of focus...

I didn't realize it was so difficult to find a WL Krypton thread that hasn't been closed...

I guess I'll just add to this one then... my apologies Jay.

Not bad for a handheld...

^^^Any chance you can take a video and stick an IR filter before the sensor?

Actual reading is only visible on only one picture.... and pictures are far too easy to manipulate.

Also... do you work for WL?

Btw, should back the laser off to a distance of about 6 inches.

Thanks for posting a second set of pics.

So are you in any way associated or benefiting from WL?

The reason I'm asking is it wouldn't exactly be objective if you're a WL rep with a very cherry picked unit....

Also do you have an IR filter to stick in front of the thermopile?

WOW!! very very..

i need to prove it by myself.. my $900 must be destroyed to the wicked laser company..
