ok i got the drive yesterday for the 24x sony dvd burner.
sucks that it's not a 5.6mm round diode.........

i've got the polarities of the pins figured out, the diode is red/IR.......i tested it at 150mA just to fidn out which pins i needed.....i'm about to hook it up at 609mA.....

hehe if it doesn't blow......i've got it setup i can glue it into an aixiz module and make a pointer out of it....will look just like all my other pointers

If it stays alive at 600mA, have fun trying to collimate that thing. I hear those boxy diodes are a pain to try to get a decent beam out of. I'm sure it would still make a good burner though.

ok these diodes suck.......
instantly died when hit with 609mA

plus the fact that they are not even round diodes......

oh well....back to LOC i guess

wow... didnt see that comin, someone need to slowly crank it up to see max power on red, ir, then both >.<

I blame Japanese workmanship. If they spec something for a certain limit, then that's exactly what it is.

When they first started really marketing their cars in the US in the 60's; if your gas needle was on E, then your tank was empty. Too many Americans complained and ever since then, in the US, if your needle was on E, you still had about a quart of gas left in the tank (just like American cars).

In China, things are a lot looser. Cheaper to make one type of real beefy diode and under spec it, than to make three or four different kinds of diodes. -Not the type of mind set I want making baby food or nuclear reactors, but for most other things, not so bad.

haha, i love your testing,
starting it off an 600mA when it blows "these suck!"

Start at maybe 200 mA and go up graphing the data.  Find the knee in the curve. Why did you start at 600 mA? Seems high for a red of that rating.
