SOLD: 635nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

well, I would entertain selling the host itself, although I wouldn't let it go very cheap. This sucker is the jewel of all c-mount hosts. Very simple setup and with the TEC built onboard, you get totally awesome cooling. Sadly I don't have the rest of the host to take pictures (it's in storage) right this second. It operated off a single driver with 2 lm337's. One for the LD, and one for the TEC. I still have it although I think one of the chips is dead. The one and only thing I didn't like about the host was it wasn't designed to take the batteries out, it had a socket to plug in a wallwart and charge the battery in it.

As to you needing money, I completely understand. If I sell the one that is currently up for sale, I will take this off your hands.. although I suspect it will be gone by then.

Well - if someone decides to grab both this diode, and purchases your host, they'll have some extra 337s to play with.

At the current required for this diode (< 1,000mA), you won't burn out the 337 - Lower current than the 2W IR I presume.

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

Man, I'd love to get my hands on this and play with it, but alas, I cannot afford it right now.:(
Besides, I've already had my 635nm fix, albeit in singlemode, 40mW form.
Very nice and visibly bright color this 635nm stuff, that's for sure.
I like it a lot more than those 660nm DVD diodes.

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

I love the color - from what I saw of it briefly :)
I'm certainly going to have to replace it with another (admittedly less powerful :() 635 at some point.

I think I should set an "end time" for the auction-style bidding here. I'm going to end the bidding at 10:00pm Eastern tonight.
Present top bid is from 532 with Envy, and it is currently $160

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

Just a reminder that the "bidding" (if thats the correct term) will end tonight at 10 PM eastern (roughly 2 hours from now).

532 With Envy is currently in the lead with $160 - which is quite a steal (and still a good chunk under what everything actually cost :))

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

Welp looks like I won this one!
Thanks for putting this out there RHD! I think that I may try a lab build with this, or perhaps a Kryton host build.....(slanting more to the lab)

To all that have followed this thread, I may need some help with this. I have done a good amount of reading on C-mount's but am still a bit hesitant of them.
I know I will be needing heatsink and have been thinking of TEC cooling for it. Also some sort of Analog modulation would be nice, but I really know VERY LITTLE about how to make this happen in a lab build.

Again thanks RHD for putting this out there and I hope that I can put together something that everyone here will enjoy and learn from(including me)

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

Congrats. Roh, maybe we can all work together. 532, I got your pm and will respond in detail tomorrow afternoon. It would be cool to keep rhd in the loop with this build. Do you still have a dead c mount? It would help with the heatsink design. I think I will donate the proceeds to the forum on this one.

We'll get it all worked out for sure
This will be a HUGE learning experience for me and through my thread I think to others as well.
Thanks for your future help:yh: and together as a LPF community I hope that this project will come to fruition.

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

This is awesome :) exactly what I was hoping for.

I've got three dead c mount irs. I'll pass one along to 532, and one was already heading to ray :)

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

One of the things I learned was a circle cut out to 16mm will provide you with a nice centering edge to butt the side of the diode against. Let me illustrate better with pictures.

this is courtesy of Hemlock Mike

You can see the side of the diode is actually butted against this lip. That lip is cut at 16mm and makes it so that the die on the opposite side actually centers over the hole for the optics.

Now, that being said, not all c-mount diodes are exactly the same, however they are incredibly close. So if you cut that mounting you can add material or remove it as see's fit. I think you'll find that it's probably going to be perfect the first try.

However IF the fac is mounted weird, it may make it difficult to mount it FACE DOWN like in the Kryton. I had to cut the hole oversized in order to allow the FAC to not be damaged. I learned this the hard way by screwing up one 632nm diode with FAC

I've fiddled a LOT with c-mounts and have probably 3 different c-mount mountings so if you are in need of a fresh idea, go ahead and give me a shout.

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

That is great to see about the FAC and would not have thought about the problems that might arrise from it....Thanks.
So far I have found that the mounting of the diode in line with the optics are the trouble. I like the design of yours Kenom and also Hemlock_Mike's design is nice as it seems to allow adjustment of the optics.
@Kenom I may need a host made special for this, Unfortunately I don't have access to a lathe or machining tools. I would love to use this in one of the Kryton's that I ordered but not really sure how and if its the best option from making a custom host for C-mount.

I have a full day work today, but hopefully tomorrow I will start a new thread for this build....(I'm going to need some real help and I think this will be a learning experience for everyone)

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

well, when you do go and post that thread, post the link here so I know where it is, I don't browse the forum much so I would go oblivious. :)

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

Hey 532:

I'm really stressing now, because I've realized that my title said 632nm instead of 635nm.

Everywhere else it was fine, the description, write-up, comments from others (Hemlock's clarifying question), the PIV printout, etc etc etc.

It's just that one typo in my title. I don't know what caused the brain fart. Either that I was staring at info on HeNes, or I was thinking about 532s, or my finger on the keypad hit a 2 instead of 5. I don't know :(

I don't think it matters - but now I'm stressing that this typo is a problem and feel like I may have unintentionally mislead you.

To clarify:
- My title said 632
- My text, description, follow-up posts, the "what's included" section, the PIV photo, etc etc etc all correctly said 635
- The diode IS 635.

I'm hoping this isn't a big deal - but please let me know so I'm not loosing sleep. :(

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

No trouble at all....the close wavelength is good enough for me.
I have a few HeNe around and know the look.
Either way I'm excited to get a C-mount and add it to my experience!

Re: 632nm 300mW C-Mount Diode w/ FAC Lens - Sad to sell :(

Awesome - makes me feel better :)
