So I got a microwave for 5$...

Yeah I plan to let the plasma go until it melts through/shatters the bowl. Then I would stop it so it doesn't start damaging the microwave.

I wonder how hot the ball of plasma gets...
Think that plasma can giver off x rays? Perhaps I should bring my geiger counter.

No X-rays at atmospheric pressure, regardless of temperature or voltage. X-ray production requires electron accelerator and bremsstrahlung braking on a high density target. With atmosphere, even partial, the mean free path of an electron is so short there isn't any acceleration.

Ah forgot about atmosphere. So smart I am...

Wonder if any kind of ionizing radiation can be generated... maybe some shortwave UV?

Oh yes, tons of UV, but again the air, and especially ionized air, is VERY opaque to anything below about 240nm. Plus the plastic of the microwave door window completely blocks the UV.

Lol your reactions were great!
"lets just see what this does, shall w--WHA!"

Try a Butane canister, place in microwave and set for 3 minutes or more, press button and run like hell to a distance of 100 feet or so, turn back and watch explosion and fire. Warning: will destroy microwave.

One of those where you turn the knob to set the time would be perfect for that. You could turn the knob to the set time and use a long extension cord. That way you could plug it in and start it from a safe distance.

Eh I don't have a big enough yard to do any explody things. Also I wan't to get as much out of the microwave as possible.

If I had a big field and a way to remote activate the microwave I would just chuck a coleman propane tank inside. BA BOOM

This is so freaking cool. Now I'm searching for a used microwave to have some fun.

Harness the power of the enclosed transformer for a Tesla coil. It's not the best type of HV source because it's not current limited but you can find instructions online on how to build a circuit to do that.

Microwave Oven Transformers are LETHAL high voltage & high current sources. A microwave oven should never be disassembled by anyone unfamiliar with working with lethal electrical and hazardous RF sources.

Yes they are dangerous. Also, neon transformers are. So are cars and heat guns if the user doesn't understand the dangers.
So unless you understand the dangers and are knowledgeable about HV, don't open it up, but it you do, have fun and be safe.

I'm going to be looking for a report ;)

The worst I've done with a microwave is cooked eggs in them, did you know if you cook them just long enough you can peel the egg and eat a hard boiled egg? After you finish picking up the pieces, stick a fork in it and it explodes.
