that's super cool :drool: what is that lens in front? is it fixed focus?
 
What host is that if I may ask? It' looks like it's even smaller than an MXDL, which I didn't think was possible since you can't get much smaller and fit a 10mm cell in it heh.

On a similar note I turned down a few of the SS trustfire EF23 1xAAA hosts a while back, and I think other than the brass ring, it resulted in a similar look.. And certainly to me, improved the look of the host a lot over the ill fitting scratch prone polish they had.

It was one of these that I originally was going to put the 510nm diode in when I get it, but the 8V Vf kind of put a crimp in that plan.

With a good enough (small enough) boost, you could probably do a single-cell 510nm given the incredibly low current required.

It's a tiny tiny host from CNQualityGoods. The walls are like 1mm thick and pretty much hug the cell perfectly. The OD is maybe 11.5mm.
 
Yeah but nearly doubling voltage is a serious stretch when having to maintain a decent efficiency. Have to remember it'd be running off 1 10440, and I wouldn't be happy with sub 10 minute run times between charges. heh.
 
In that scenario, you'd almost want to use 2x 10180s.

Even at 75% boost driver efficiency, I think you'd only need to pull ~280mA from the cells if they were in series. I'm not sure the capacity of those 10180s, but I think they're around 120 mAh - So you'd maybe be able to get 20 minutes of run time?

A lot of numbers from memory / without a calculator there, but I think it might be preferable to boost the ~7.4 V to the required Vf, even if it meant loosing a bit of capacity over a single-10440 build.

With two, it'd have to do boost/buck. Fully charged, the batteries would be 8.4V. Looks like 'best case' with 2x 10280's would give me an area inside the host 13.2mm in diameter and 10mm deep to play with. Not a whole lot. A single 10440 would increase that to 26mm.. which would be more than enough for about anything. 2 10180's would give 34mm of room for a driver.. in which case I could go up to 3x 10180's and have a 12mm deep pocket for a buck regulator... Hmm. That might actually be the easiest way to go about it. Providing I can come up with a buck that meets the size requirements. Though the 10180's appear to only be 90mAh. hrm... I may just have to go to a bigger host. Maybe the EF22's heh. which are identical, just bigger. And go with a pair of 300mAh 14250's
