The way I was taught, using the full formal spelling indicates a racist term, while the gang culture spelling "ni*ga" or "ni*gas" is just a street term for another person regardless of race. Also, it seems that the race being referred to by these derogatory terms use them to refer to each other without any derogatory connotation.

I could be completely wrong here, though, being a geeky white boy.

Pretty much correct. In fact, I said it in laser rap part I. In the following line:

"Niggas buildin everything they see"

Basically replaces the word "man" or "dude" with "nigga." For example, instead of saying "what's up, dude" it would be "what's up my NIGGA" lol. But call a black man a nigger and you had best be ready to fight/die.

The masses have spoken.....

@c0ld.... for how long...:thinking:
and BTW.... :thanks:

There is no reason to ban him....Sure he is annoying at times...but who isn't?

I think all of this banning talk...although at times is necessary...has gone a bit overboard.

Then make your views known to the Admin... If enough members
ask to have him reinstated with their reasoning for doing so..
(after Wes broke the Forum Rules among other things)... then you
may change the Admins decision.....

@the rest of you wanting to close this thread.....

There is no reason to do so....IMO
There is no Flaming or Bashing on this thread... as more members
see this thread... they will understand a bit more clearly that this
forum is self moderated...

Next time open the post in the reserved section so it won't become a flaming war >.>

I am not going to take it to Cold...after all, the people have spoken and he did break the rules. In his case though, it really wasn't that bad(IMO).

I agree with not taking down this thread.

I disagree... Polls are like voting and it should be open to ALL LPF members
to make it fair and just...
BTW... where did you see a Flaming war on this Thread... Did i miss something..

I think everything worked out fine.. I am very satisfied with the way this forum handles its "problems"

At the risk of appearing like a blatant brown-noser I +rep cOld for the ban--it that allowed???hak

I agree 100%
As many have pointed out, small time posters and lurkers actually make up the large majority of LPF, and they are responsible for a lot of the impact we as a community have on the laser World. Veteran members might be the ones who come up with the most new ideas and inventions, keep the forum together and provide all the most complex knowledge, but without the rest of the forum all this awesomeness would not reach anyone. Everyone's opinion matters, and even someone getting banned should be allowed to post "No" in the poll about himself.

Also - where is indeed this famous flame war?

Seb

EDIT: Yes hak, very much allowed. C0ld is a brilliant admin and there is no shame in acknowledging it, even if a +rep doesn't actually make a difference when he can take and give all the rep he wants anyway ;)

Nah, Albert just likes to make things up, then accuse you of being wrong.

If there are enough people that are annoyed by somebody on a forum, there is no point in letting them stay. Like others have said, freedom of speech doesn't apply to a forum. If everybody hates somebody here, why let that person stay and trash the apparent quality of the forum when they can just be kicked out? This way nobody has to "babysit" some idiot because they post bad content continuously. If this was like any other well-moderated forum, objectionable members would be kicked out permanently and there would be no loss to the community. We get floods of crap posts every day, so banning the members responsible for a majority of those posts should help somewhat. I'm sick of sifting through trash every day trying to read posts about my hobby or even while browsing the Off Topic section.
