Re: My experience with SciFi lasers

Oy! I was hoping it would be more like my current battery tester. Set it to the correct battery type, and then touch the red wire to positive, the black wire to negative, and check the reading.

That is pretty much all it is... Set it to the correct range and correct type of current (DC Volts vs AC Volts). Red wire to positive, black wire to negative. Read the display, viola! :D Hell - you can even reverse the polarity so that red is on negative and black is on positive. It'll just read out a negative voltage instead of a positive voltage.

Difference being you need to know what voltage your battery is supposed to be - rather than the device figuring out if it's correct for you. Some battery testers I believe will do more in depth testing than just voltage too.

Hope my extended explanation in my previous post made sense ... :p

Re: My experience with SciFi lasers

Personally I think everybody should own a basic multimeter and have a basic understanding of how to use it. What if your car won't start? Use a multimeter to test the battery voltage. Need to know if an outlet or electrical connection is live? Use the multimeter. The everyday uses for one are incredible.

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

If he says they're banned items, won't Paypal confiscate the money?

I heard that's how they operate, but I could be wrong..

I'm not sure laser pointers, even higher powered ones, are banned in the US. I checked laws before ordering mine to make sure--both Federal and State. All I found was that they were illegal to manufacture here, but not illegal to possess. Other than that, it was mentioned to be illegal to point at aircraft, police officers or at anyone as a way to intimidate or harm. So it appears that they are perfectly fine to possess.

Re: Sci-Fi Lasers is a total joke!!!!

In the United States you can have any power laser you want.. I checked and double checked before I ordered.. I'm not breaking any laws by buying a perfectly legal product and neither is anyone else... I can only speak for the United States though... I don't know other countries laws.

I sometimes use mine to check I'm still alive... :can:

I need to stop with the dark jokes before people start thinking I have a problem...

Seriously though, they are SUPER useful. Can test batteries, outlets, fuses, lamps, wires. All sorts! Pretty much anything electrical at home that you can think of. :D

So it can be used on a car battery too? I'm glad to hear that, because that would be another use I could put it too. My car's battery isn't the best right now and won't start the car if I don't drive every couple days, at which time I have to put the charger on it for about a half hour to get it to start. It's a 13 year old battery, so it's not surprising. I'll replace it before next winter. I said that last year, so that means it'll actually happen this year! :)

Re: Paypal claim active vs Sci-Fi Lasers

WOW, I think Sci Fi is actually going to sink. Just look at the companies section of lpf. After seeing these, I quickly made a claim on paypal. I just hope I get my money back. Does anyone know how likely it is to actually get your money back from a paypal claim?:anyone:

Yep - most volt meters will test voltages up to 1000VDC - your car battery is likely a 12V battery so probably doing 13.5-13.8V on a full charge if it's at all healthy.

I feel you on the replacing your battery thing, I need to do mine before next winter too (Also said that last year...). I just don't feel like shelling out $160 for a new one - then having the hassle of changing it and sorting out the battery blanket and all that. Wonder if one of those big 80Ah SLAs I have would work... :D 13 years is a damn good lifetime for a car battery though.

Whoa! $160??? You must be buying a really high-end battery for that much! I was going to buy one at Farm & Fleet for about $55. Blain's Farm & Fleet 5-Year Silver Automotive Battery (Group Size: 75) at Blain's Farm & Fleet

I drive a truck so the battery in that is a good chunk larger than your standard small car battery. Also, that's Canadian dollars and Canadian Tire prices. I could probably get one for $30 less elsewhere.

Ah yes, those 2 things do make a difference. My car is a Chevy Cavalier.

Re: The thread of all sci-fi drama threads

I was going to give you a negative rep because, y'know. But you actually did a decent job of that ...

I know, not bad right? Besides Sta beat you to it lol

Wow. I have to agree with diachi on this one, nicely done.

The fact that it is nicely done does not mean it is civil or respectful. Still, quite funny.
