The new one from ThorLab has higher NA and should capture more power from the LD.

Shorter focal length should give a slightly thinner beam.

And to mount, is just 6,35mm lens without lensnut.

The brass Aixiz lens would be a good inexpensive host for your new lens.

They have a internal threaded lens mount.

I just bought some for the bare lenses I have on order.

Hey many thanx for the hint Larry.
I have two of them in my hobbyratory.

I have a small look at them and the are hard to open, no chance with just two sharp tools.
I think i have to make speziallized tool to open.
Iam short on time these days. Work and Paintball season take my time.

Maybe give it some heat?

Do you try to Open one?

The new lens from lightpath has a smaller diameter then the normal plastik one.
Aixis plastik 7mm and the other 6,35mm.


If i make something with it i post in optiks board asap. :

What does he mean by internal threaded lens mount?

The aixis glasslensholder and some other lensholder nuts are made with inner threaded ring wich fix the lens itself, instead of the click joint from the plastik lensnut.

I managed to open it, its not that hard glued.

I grind a screwdriver to fit the inner ring, and hold the lens nut with universal pliers.
Protect the nut with a bit cardboard.

But the fit with the lightpath lens is not good.
It can work because the ring press the konical lens in place, but not optimal.

And i cant screw it down to focus to a beam.

Now i think about glueing the ring with lens in place and grind the back to minimum to get some place to screw deeper in the aixis modul...


My roithner lens fit direct with the end of the lensnut and it can be crewed in to 0 focal lenght.


i guess finaly i have to lathe the complete nut

Yes, I know. I am also dealing with the focusing problem with very short wavelength lenses.

But they ARE better solutions, in spite of the additional work.

with A LOT of patience and some acetone, you can unscrew them, also aixiz ones, but the acetone can ruin the inside spacer ring (not the lenses that are glass, but the small plastic ring that separate the first element from the doublet)

The main problem is that, usually, they uses loctite threadblocker glue, for seal them

At least for my lenses ..... on all the glass ones that i had around here (like 15 or 20), i was able to unscrew only one, without ruin the screwdriver notches, and another only cutting part of the inside ring ..... all the others are still resisting to all my trials, so i left them in peace, and used them as they are
