Review: Reke 500RGB (laserius projectorus-cheapus)

Re: Reke 500RGB

Video showing this laser projector performing additonal animations in "auto" mode; different DIP switch settings on the unit itself were used to acheive the different effects. This video is not set to any zax, so you don't have to worry about getting an earwhipping. ;-)

Whats with the squiggles???

Re: Reke 500RGB

They're an unfortunate camera artifact which cannot be avoided. :(
I already added a disclaimer about them to my evaluation of the projector.

Ah OK thought so. Was wondering if your laser was doing something weird.
I am probably going to reshoot some of my video now that I know the right settings.

Re: Reke 500RGB

...did you LPM it yet? I am curious what it's putting out :)

Due to the way it functions (and since I do not have a DMX or PC-based controller that would allow me to select a single color), I am simply not able to meter this bad boy for power output, sorry about that. :(

The sound-activated mode might work if the laser didn't automatically deactivate after several seconds of no detectable audio input.

How did you do the specrto? Does the unit break the different colors into individual graphs for you? I have never used a spectrograph before.

Can you take a few LPM readings off it and average them out? It won't be accurate but better than nothing...

Re: Reke 500RGB

I performed the spectrographic analyses by placing the unit in sound-sensitive mode, and tapping the case until only a single primary color (red, green, or blue) was produced. From that point, I only had several seconds to direct the laser radiation into the spectrometer's sensor aperture to get a decent reading without overloading the instrument. Because of the short duration, it took me close to half an hour to collect all three spectra.

Here is the grossly inaccurate power output analysis you asked for:

reke7.gif

I know this isn't accurate ("not no way, not no how" as they say), but it's better than nothing.

It is in my web eval. right now, and will show up on this BBS in its eval. tomorrow morning.

That means it can't be LESS than 315 then right?
Nice to be able to put a number to a face that's not 100% made up by the mfgr.
Nice to have kinda a base line though.

Thanks.

Re: Reke 500RGB

BTW the mfgr claims the unit has 20K galvos and the manual says 10k I have no idea why Dino says 5k I don't think they measured it. And that is in points per second.

Also their are 2 red "lamps"

I updated my review and linked to your article for the spectrometer and LB graphs.

Also the size is: 13.5" long x 9.5" deep x 4" tall. I measured it myself
The weight is ~3.5 kg
And I think the lens cover is made of glass (from my scientific method of tapping on it with a metal rod)

[OFFTOPIC]
Also LEDdy if I wanted a nice bright flashlight that didn't kill it's batteries in 15 minutes what would you recommend?

I got this awesome little light from DX that apparently has a Cree emitter in it. The thing produces about as much light as the sun and about twice as much heat but it seems to go through a set of batteries before I have a chance to finish using it... You look like you've seen every light on the planet whats the best one that won't break my bank account?

Re: Reke 500RGB

Ah hell. Mine's at the PO less than a mile from my house and they're closed now. What sucks is I don't have a car so I wither have to wait until after 4 tomorrow when someone else gets home or walk up to the PO and get it myself. How big is the box it ships in? If it's not too huge I can just carry it home.

Re: Reke 500RGB

I just ordered one of these today, couldn't wait any longer after seeing LED's information alongside the OP :D $316 was my total & I hope it makes it here as quickly as it did for you guys. Thanks again for posting the pics & vids of how this thing looks

It's a decently big and heavy box... I took mine on the bus and walked a few blocks with it... It's doable.

Hmm. I have one of those folding carts like you use for luggage I could take with me. I'll have to go dig it out. I don't think I can wait for EOD to get it.

Actually, it's no *LESS* than 376mW -- look at the "Max 376 just below and to the right of the large green "315". :D

Remember, this laser show is quite dynamic in which lasers come on and when, so there's simply no possible way to get a stable reading of the total (or of any single laser for that matter) short of disembowelling the poor thing to remove its lasers for individual metering.

You could project a single colored dot with ILDA and get the power output of each laser minus optical loss but sadly you lack the ILDA gear and I lack a LPM.

I noticed the max thing after that post that's no bad considering it's only supposed to be 500 mW and the mfgrs always lie.
