Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Upperlevel, many people have offered help. If you tell us were you live, a member in your area may be able to help you out. If it's just the wires that need to be re-soldered, it can be a quick fix.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

We should wait until better pictures showing the back of the diode, wires, and overall soldering quality are posted - any comments we make before then are little more than speculation. It may be an easy fix (two minutes with a good iron) to resolder the diode, but we won't be able to tell without it either being in a reputable member's hands, or having good-quality close-up pictures.

There are a couple members that I know of in Alberta, see if you can get in contact with them and if they can help you.

Ok, well I don`t know who these members are, and when I looked at the member map there didn't appear to be anyone close to me.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

You can calculate the shipping rate from here :

http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/personal/findARate?execution=e2s2

PM me so that i will send you my address !

Waiting for the pics !

Why are you SO EAGER to get a hold of this Laser
needing repair...

What experience have you had in repairing Lasers....
What is your Electronics assembly background....
All I see in your Sig is two DIY Laser builds...

Are you aware that Tracked and Insured shipping to
Greece is VERY expensive from Canada....

You seem just a bit TOO eager to me.....:undecided:

@ upperlevel...
you have 2 logical choices...

1) send it back for a refund.
2) have it repaired by a reputable Canadian Member
to save on shipping costs.

@ bhwollen....
Sorry but...from the pic it looks like you could use a
course in soldering technique and the use of heat shrink...
This problem could have been easily avoided...:undecided:

I thought that sending it back for refund would be reasonable too, but he refuses. I am considering sending to a US member, I wish bw would at least pay for that shipping charge.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

crossing the border is like a 4$ toll but okay.

The problem to ship to the USA is that >5mW Lasers
are Illegal to import and risk confiscation by the USA
Customs Service..
And coming back to Canada we have heard recently
on the Forum that a WL Laser was confiscated....

Those are 2 chances I would not take on top of
getting a defective Laser....

This is definitely a concern of mine. I WOULD like to just try soldering it myself, but I risk screwing up. I also risk not screwing it up and it still not working, in which case bw will just say i wrecked it through soldering.

Don't play with it... This way the member that does repair it
will see the Laser as you received it.
Wait until tomorrow to let other members see this thread and
respond.
Then I would open a Thread stating that you are looking for
a reputable and "experienced in Laser repair" LPF Member that
lives in Canada.

There are a Few....:yh:

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I did open up the laser, but he claims I did so eve though I did not know how to do so without twisting the wires.
BTW bw, how would you have suggested I opened it WITHOUT twisting the wires, the top end was in there so loose.

Again, pics coming tomorrow.

Did I miss where you told us what model the host was?

There are specific steps one must take, in order, to disassemble a laser.

The twisted wiring (to the point of pulling loose the pin connection) is indicative of the laser being disassembled incorrectly.

If certain parts were already loose, then they have to be tightened in a specific order as well.

You already said, yourself, that you started unscrewing it at the bell and then screwed it back together (although it was unclear why)

First, I would have to know the model of the host.
Second, I would have to know which part was "loose."
Third, I would have to know what part you "unscrewed" part way and then screwed back in.

Until we have some more specific info from you and/or have the laser in hand, it is very difficult to assign "blame."

Peace,
dave

Just one problem....

Even I am not on the Map.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Its a C8 from mohrenberg. To take it apart you must take off the top ring first. Then unscrew the set screw to take out the HS. Then uscrew the head.

You may or may not believe me, but the top part was always unscrewed, so it was unscrewed when I unscrewed the middle part.
