Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Comment 2:
As to why Ben would sell an un-LPM'd laser, that's beyond me. I'm not sure of the chronology here, but I do remember him mentioning at one stage that he had sent his LPM back to LaserBee, and had to pay them $50, to "re-coat" the sensor. That's just something he told me, so I don't know whether it interacted chronologically with this issue, and/or whether that was the full story etc. But if that is the case, then it may be the reason Ben didn't have his LPM when this listing was made. I have no idea.

He has an LPM:

Do you own an Alpha, Ben? Last I remember, you had a laserbee.... How can you give an "Honest Opinion" if you don't have an Alpha to compare to??

Yes I do actually rocket. You can see it here. http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-285mw-532-dhom-analogue-66897.html
So, I do have an honest opinion, because I own both. Yet, I don't count my shitbee as a real LPM. I hate that thing.

^^^ My opinion please don't flame.

Apparently he has two... so I'm at a loss as to why an LPM reading was not provided.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

I didn't know he did not give the laser a LPM reading before it left. He sold it as a 1.8W 445. Not to cool in my book:(

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

^^^^ bw's wording was actually "1.8+W" so it's the plus sign that is throwing us off. we are actually assuming he didn't lpm it. but i'm pretty sure nobody knows for sure.

it is sketchy to use the plus sign if you actually metered it...

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

^why is it sketchy? I have always used >X mw when selling /trading lasers. I always meter my lasers and round the number down so the output I claim is always higher than they expect rather than claiming <10-20% mw

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

^^^I just post an LPM graph screenshot and log file. That way buyer can decide for themselves.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

New buyers are often idiots. They think 1.8W is infinitely superior to 1.6W. I guess they want the higher wattage rating as some sort of immature status symbol Whom they are impressing with such a figure is beyond me (my friends would just laugh and say "so, like 1/30th the power of light bulb?").

I guess it goes to "what can I get the most of for my Dollar?"
One seller... for $1.00 gives me 1 banana (1W)...
The other seller... for $1.50 me 2 bananas (2W)...
The second seller is obviously the best deal... If you want
bananas. Still... what are the weight of the bananas the
sellers are offering... and so on and so on....

Maybe he did meter the Laser and found that it was not 1.8W and
merely said he didn't meter it to get more $$$ for his claim of 1.8W
and not be responsible for the actual output power once metered
by the buyer....

That seems a more logical explanation for someone that has already
admitted to owning two (2) functioning LPMs....:undecided:

Just my opinion but this is the correct way to do it :D

Of course it's the right way to do it if you have scruples and
are honest..
WL for example does not have those traits either...:cryyy:

Let's hold on to our pitch forks until Flaminpyro can tell us what's actually going on with this laser.

Unfortunately I have a suspicion that this laser will not have a g1 lens:undecided:

You can hold onto your pitch fork as long as you want....
I just call it as I see it....:D

My issues are with the way the Buyer was handled by the
Seller.

Trust me, my pitchfork is at the ready and getting sharpened if Ben doesn't come through.

This whole situation has been mishandled, out of I suspect, a complete lack of experience. That IMHO is forgivable, if he takes steps to deal with the situation.

What isn't, is selling an underspec laser, that is not as advertised. If this turns out to be a laser without a g1 lens and nowhere near 1.8W... that would be a plain old bait and switch scam... which is not forgivable imho.

For the moment there is little else to do, but wait until we see what Flaminpyro has to say.

i'll tell you why... just putting the plus sign is a sign that it is a guess. and having seen how bw has handled this whole thing just reafirms it.

from what i have read bw did not use the " <> " signs, he actually used the " + " sign.

michael.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

Well, I don't speak for bhwollen or anyone else who uses +/- or >\< I was under the assumption they were the same thing? Maybe I am lost here.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

If this was this laser that the OP bought heres a sales thread quote,

Same, I beileve when the thread was first posted he was trying to acquire an Alpha but couldn't get one. It should have been updated when an LPM was acquired to confirm his specs.

We're probably going to have to wait unitl Jeff takes a look at it. Unless the OP does a lot of quick research he may not be able to tell us what we need to know with Lense types and the tech specs that we know off the tops of our heads ;)
Just to clarify, I don't think this was the original ad.

The original ad simply said 1.8W (no + or < in my honest recollection).

I wish I had access to the original ad, but unfortunately it was never re-posted when it was deleted when the site went down that time.

Ben claimed somewhere (I think within this thread) that he 'tested' the laser. I have no idea if he LPM'd it or not, I was just saying I never saw pictures of that.

OFFICIALLY SENT OFF TO JEFF EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON!

Should be 5 business days before he can diagnose it and such.

Re: VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with 'bhwollen'

This is what I have been saying since our good friend sparkles came around. Any and everyone who doesn't have an LPM should NOT make a specific claim to the lasers power. How do you know if it'd 1.8W or 1.2W? Your eyes an LPM? Train me!

If I were to sell a laser now ( not having an LPM) I would say it is set to 1.5A and should fall in the 1.2W+ range.
