I can't try to rep more until late tonight, already used up my allotted number. As far as the rep system goes, the truth is I can go either way with it, keeping it or not, but I decided to vote against it just because long time members with high enough reps can take away 3 points or more at a time. Other than that, I prefer to keep it the way it was before.

The devil got into you! I doubt it will be removed, my guess is the system will be returned to what it was, but the amount of points a neg can take reduced, that's a good compromise, I think.

If someone can provide a study which shows the positive effects of a reputation system, I'd like to see, but when googling it, I can't find something solid, only opinion.

While we're at it, let's reset everyone's post counts to zero, remove all custom avatars, and replace all usernames with random numbers. That would be the most egalitarian way to go about things no?

Oh, and take it a step further. Take the usernames off of all threads, and require all posts to be approved by a moderator.

A perfect little socialist forum.

Yep, that would certainly give us more to complain about, well... I doubt there would be many complaints, everyone would go to another forum, or start one.

Hey, I have an idea that miffs off some to no end, supporting the forum by buying reps! I will donate 1 dollar for every rep I get, at a limit of +50 reps a month if we keep the system, that is. I will buy my way into the nicer washroom that way, never mind if I do anything more to deserve it.

I offered to do that once, thought it was a good way to help support the forum, alone it wouldn't do much, but if several members joined in, that might just pay for the forum every month, right now I think it costs Avery more to run it than we give. It isn't like they would be free reps, if you financially support the forum, that says a lot to me. The neg rep system would still work, if you were a jerk, you would then need to donate to the forum to get your reputation back, win-win, it would amount to being fined for miffing people off.

How do you think I feel about some upstarts rep whoring themselves all over the place? So much so that they manage to spread their legs enough to have more reps than members that have stuck around for many years? Who say hand out reps like candy, for the purpose of inflating their own, your thank you reps back, rather than rewarding actual achievement?

Well, I'm part of the problem, I've been giving reps out like candy every day, some to those I think deserve it, some just because I needed to use them up before I could rep someone again who I thought deserved it, especially active members who keep contributing interesting threads, pictures, or are just helping others. Now I have to give out several times as many reps to complete newbies who might be banned members coming back, just so I can rep someone again who deserves it.

That's another reason I voted against the rep system, but I think it can be fixed and keep it, maybe even make a hybrid out of it so we can get more mileage from the system to help support the community, although probably far more limited than I suggested in my previous post. Even tiny contributions would help stop the returning banned members from coming back so easily, if you forced a one time 1 dollar donation to join or list items to sell, hell, 25 cents! Although there is probably a down side to that idea too, nothing is perfect. Maybe allowing new members to join for a month without the fee, after that a dollar to confirm they aren't the same banned member coming back. It wouldn't stop everyone, but it sure would limit the number of member names they can churn out.

IMO that's wrong. Reps shouldn't be given out just so that you can give out more reps. Personally I can't count how many times I've gone to rep someone, and couldn't. That doesn't mean you turn around and start repping old accounts just so you can.

The previous system worked just fine until you and cyparagon, and I'm sure a few others decided it to game it, by actually bothering to use up all the rep they can. Some bitch about others having too much rep, but look at how much most high rep members actually give it out and take it. Not much. Not often.

Still it was a part of the system, and for the most part no one cared.

That is until we had a 3 drama queen trolls in a row, you and cyp all get into a tiff. Both of you egged on by trolls.

Not sure why this thread is going to be honest. Poll results are quite clear. Literally no one likes the new system. Most prefer the old system. Personally I'm fine with getting rid of it all, just to see the chaos. I mean everything, post counts, avatars, and user names too.
