Remove diode from aixiz housing without damage

Just thought i'd let you guys know, it is possible to remove the diode/driver from an Aixiz module without damage. I made a little tool to fit over the can of the diode and press against the base to pop the assembly free. Will post a picture if there is interest.

I am sure that some people here would be interested, my reject 5mw reds have 2 chances if they still work they go in the "maybe useful some day" box, if they don't survive the trauma they go in the bin ;)

It has to be a fine walled tube to fit over the can but inside the hole in the housing....if that is how you are doing it....

I use small brass fittings that I got from Home Depot. I just grind the inside out a little and they fit perfectly over the can and within the hole in the module. Just stick the fitting on the diode, stick it all in a vise and press the diode right out. Also works well for properly seating diodes in the Aixiz module since the back end of the module doesn't fully press the diode in (it should be slightly recessed, not flush).

Here's the tool with some doodads for scale.

:D I use a piece of radio antenna and the vise is from a desk lamp.

FireMyLaser, I intended to do something just like you did but couldn't find an appropriately sized piece of tubing in my junk box. Its so nice to have a lathe :)

This is what I use, 1/4" OD Brass Insert and Delrin Sleeve.  Found it in the plumbing section at Home Depot, $1 for two:

Looks like the one I built a year ago. Mine is made of steel because of the thin wall sometimes needed.

The thin wall brass may be too soft. The casing is soft so pressure seals the chamber.

nice, thank you people for the pics!

i took the bottom of a tin can and soldered a "tube" of it onto a screwdriver. because the tube still hat the slit it didnt hold long, less than 10 pushes. i'll try to build an unslitted one like you guys did, thanks for sharing! :-)
anyway, mine worked too, if its not too long it will hold several times. if youre in a hurry, best way to safely extract those diodes!
hmm, anyone an idea what to do with them, without collimator? hehe

Dave uses the antenna tube if I recall correctly.

You know that you can buy blank modules right? I think they only sell lots of 10 for $25 though.
