Red laser white

Haha, I know what you mean. Oh well, I'll just wait for my real red to show up, eventually.

Shoot a PM over to Fenzir and ask him what bluray diodes he had on hand... You might be able to identify it like that.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this is a 12x? A PHR would have been dead by now, and so would a 6x... and the threshold on a 12x is substantially low enough that it would make sense that it may not be able to burn things at 270mA... right?

Or maybe I am just being stupid.

Yeah, I dunno. I sent him a pm, but no idae if he will reply.

And if it is a 12x, what is the recommended current?

IF it's a 12x, I would go with 300-400mA, but a lot of people here drive them upwards of 500+mA.

Huh. I wish there was a way to identify it. Like pin resistance or something, idk.

Because if I push it that hard and its not, its dead, but if I don't and it is its a waste.

My guess is that, if you truly are giving it 270mA and it's not dead, and it won't burn paper either, is that you have yourself a zombied 12x. Because any other blu-ray diode would be LED'd way before 270mA, and a 12x at 270mA should give almost 400mW of power. And if it can't even burn paper (easy for 200mW of blu-ray), then it is probably just a crappy 12x that is half-dead.

Well, I ASSUME its 270ma. Idk if I'm actually getting that much current. My DDL is set to that, but I'm powering off of a 9v so... they give that kind of current right?

NO. 9V batteries have VERY little current discharge capabilities. Get some li-ion batteries, THEN try it. Or, measure the current directly by putting your DMM (in current mode) in series between the driver and the diode.

Oh ha. I am only getting 90mA. But great, now I don't know if it will LED or not. Back to square one! (did manage to get it to burn at 110mA though)

My guess is that it's a PHR then. 120mA is the maximum suggested current.

Why would someone give away a hugely more expensive diode for the price of $13?

It wasn't 13 dollars, it was part of a 35 dollar pack. But, the thing is, it wasn't on purpose. It was supposed to be a 300mw 650nm laser diode, not a blueray :P

Well yeah, but the point being, he would have noticed he is missing it from his stock. If he sent you a 12x, he probably would have contacted you about it... or not :P

Unless someone else out there got a red in place of their BR and they haven't hooked it up to see. (Or they did and it went >POOF< so they figure they did something wrong.)

Or he might have a bunch of diodes that were sitting around? I mean, the thing it came in had zero markings on it, and the diode had zero markings, so it would have been easy to accidentally put it in the wrong place? I dunno, I'm throwing ideas into the wind now, lol. I hope he replies to my pm.

Can you tell me what the pin out was on it.? In Other words was he using the Case Pin on this laser of yours.?

Also IIRC the PHR-805 Have no Marking on the back.
