Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

As I recall one of these failed and was never measured and another wasn't measured either, but "looks" like it is 488nm. IDK.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

I Believe the diode BBB got from Dr.laser was measured by CNI @ ~488.? IIRC

I had a msg back from Existotem....chances are low on more coming up. But with the activity lately who knows :D

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

I got one of those 488nm diodes to test. It measured 484nm, so it wasn't exactly what it was claimed to be. It also doesn't like to be pushed as hard as the 473nm or the 503nm diodes. Strange measurements on these new diodes.

So hard to keep track of these different threads for the new diodes Paul, the info you have is about the 488nm<$300 yes?

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode

That is correct. It is much happier as a 484nm to 485nm diode. Still, a very nice color.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

Yep only 488 but considering they were only $100 originally I doubt anyone will find a 488 any cheaper for at least another year, Also I think if there even is a 495 diode out there it's going to be similar price to the Osram 488,s
I've been so busy lately I can't find the time to hook it up to my power supply, don't know why I was more excited for the 473 when they popped up than this 488,

Also don't have a driver to use with it, if anyone can mod a NANO for 100-150ma I'll buy it!

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

Well the diodes were advertised at 495nm at the time of the listing. Didn't make it there though, both around 488nm. Never know if another batch will show up on spec...

....Yes-- the OP would have found a gem.... & he certainly meant well,,
we still learned a lot and he was kind to add the 'spoiler' to the title... as NOT doing that would look to some as being unkind... +195 for the OP. hak

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

Wow this is just insane, love it, will post some pics later but here is a vid of first time on, very jumpy at threshold current i didn't go over 120ma for now, also brand new G2 lens and the beam-divergence is just fine from my opinion small square reflection just like the 473 and 505,s and when adjusted to infinity the round hollow spot that was mentioned isn't even noticeable, It's very bright at 120ma doubt there is any need to go higher, It's definitely a keeper guys!

Thanks buddy
I have a box of drivers I've kept for a rainy day and without this little baby I couldn't continue with my custom 488 build,

The driver is actually for 405 and can be set from 10-400ma. It has soft start it's tiny but it said boost to 5.5v witch is a little short for the 6.3v this 488 needs at 130ma. But so far it's doing a great job, actually doesn't even get warm,
I'm prepared for all the criticism commin, well maybe not it seems no one is interested in the 488 anymore, On this thread anyway,

Well I'll keep those that are interested informed on its life at 130ma. This is gonna be one cool pointer!

Wow that is nice! Also don't forget to update your signature!

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

And I may now need to clean some drool off of the floor. Very nice wavelength even following this recent trend of being off on the advertised wavelength. Just check eekbay and existotem has now up the price on their 488 to $900 now that they have seen the demand for these. Almost sickening knowing how little they must be paying to have let a few of these 488 and 495 diodes go for <$100...

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

badboybilly, that's a really fantastic color!

The ones that showed up for <$100 were produced by sharp, the more expensive ones are osram diodes. The sharp diodes are supposed to be much cheaper, but AFAIK no one is selling them yet apart from those two "test" units.

That color is fantastic badboybilly. I'm really looking forward to these diodes being a bit more available.

Re: new Sharp 495nm diode(after testing it confirmed just 488nm)

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any more available at this time. I did finish testing one and they are much happier being pushed at 150 mA at a wavelength between 484nm and 485nm. To get to 488nm one must push them around 300 mA and they tend to get quite hot there.... even pressed into a module.
