Hello everyone. Today I took deeper steps into the hobby by heat sinking the driver (thanks to DTR's work :)) in this host that Jayrob used to have.

I ordered some thermal adhesive on ebay (DTR's and Jayrob's Recommendation)

Once it came I used a freakin quarter and attached it to the heat sink and then the pill. Please excuse the picture.. I tried to take the best one.

I then tested it for 11 minutes and it was still kicking ass ... I got impatient and ended the test but before I turned it off and unfocused I lit a match instantly and the host was very warm.

I was so stoked I had to walk around in circles to calm down and then I had to call my bro in law and brag about it heheh.

The driver is pushed to the max. It's far more powerful than the 1.1watt setting on my tank007. I really wish I had an lpm but cannot afford one yet so I'm hesitant on selling this laser until I get one.

These coin heat sinks really really work and I have to give DTR a great thanks for providing it... I mean who the hell would think to use a coin?

I look at it on my desk and I still can't believe it.

I like!!!! I really want a side button host.

BTW I love the new avatar. Laser Slug FTW.

I believe I have some of them hosts in the HOST drawer.

Jeff They are easy to get into. I had to screw in the pill part ways in for it to fit and it works perfectly. Theres a spring in there between the pill and the battery compartment so theres plenty of room.

Sad to say Udanis the host is discontinued :(

Thanks, LaserSlug loves you all ;)

EDIT: Jayrobs sidebutton host 00George. He still has the pics and tutorials listed. The pill unscrews from the head on the inside. Use something like a small screwdriver to turn it.

That is a nice host too!!

YAY!!!

Using the 405g1 and used that during the test. I'd have to sell this laser without a lens because I only have one of those and just got a 445 one.

I would suggest that everyone heat sink those V5s when using a 445nm diode or any high power one for that matter. I don't doubt that Flaminpyro or even Jayrob will be making their own custom ones made fit for their kits. :)

Looks good.

I do want to make sure to point out that the reason this works so well is not only the contact the driver has with the coin but the contact the coin has with the host. It provides a conduit to get the heat from the driver through to the whole body of the host.

I do like the side clicky hosts. I wish I saw more good ones. This host looks pretty massive as well. Should provide lots of heat dispersion.

Nice work.;)

I had to use the second quarter on my desk... when I tried to drill a hole in the first one it got so hot I let go of it and it went flying somewhere in the house. Still haven't found it.

That's when I knew it would be good as a heat sink heheh. Yup the pills threads transfer greatly as you said in one of your first threads. ;)

Nice to see its working great for ya CJ. Hard to imagine what a little heatsinking on the driver would do for runtimes.

At this point since both the diode and the driver are sinked I would guess that we go back to the original worrying of the diodes duration itself ;)
