Question about DIY Scanner build

Thanks for your reply Dan.

If it is the same (specs) as the LaserBoy DAC the price is just insane. LaserBoy DAC is 40USD so this is twice the price of that :-( There is no way i am going to pay 80USD for something i can get for 40USD. Guess I have to wait till LaserBoy get them back in stock, or maybe look for an alternative that isnt twice as expensive.

I think you may be mistaking the "Laserboy DAC" with the Laserboy correction amp. Just to say, this is NOT a complete DAC, you will need a USB sound card (Preferably one of the cmedia ones) to use with it as well.

If you really want to be cheap, then you can build the correction amplifier yourself: Search EzAudDac on PL.

Ahh yes you are right.

But the Audiolase DAC also requires a soundcard correct? So either way I need a soundcard so the LaserBoy Correctional Amp and the Audiolase DAC are doing the same task?

I already ordered the Cmedia soundcard found in the DAC tutorial from DX so all i need is the DAC/Correctional Amp.

The 300Evil kit comes with a much better dc-dc converter so you can get bigger scans. Tht part alone costs 30 bucks.

Its also a lot nicer looking and has a db-25 on the board...

Both kit versions require a sound card yes.

I went with the Audiolase DAC. The quality of this board is superior and tuning it was really easy as well. I will make an addon to the DAC tutorial post outlining the tuning of the Audiolase board as well as connecting it to the Soundcard. I spent some hours looking for info on how this was done since there are some differences compared to the LaserBoy DAC. I figured it out but with an addon to the dac post others might save a few hours of searching and reading up.

Here are a few pictures :-)

Nice! I'm in the planning phase of my scanner and those pics are just what I need to get off my butt and get working on it!
