Yeah seriously lol. Sony was so absurdly confident in their uncrackable system. Then here comes this guy, cracks it in a little over a month :crackup:Now he's pissed off TWO major corporations LOL this man is a GENIUS!
 





AFAIK this does not give full access to the deepest level of hardware... It will not allow ISO's or backups, it will not allow custom firmware to replace the GameOS... The best this will do for now is allow linux to be installed with GPU acceleration.

It bypasses the hypervisor, which allows direct access to some of the hardware, but it doesn't touch the really secure stuff.. For that, we need the root encryption key, which isn't going to happen anytime soon.

This might open up a little bit of homebrew goodness, but as it stands, from what I gather, it doesn't let you run pirated games.
 
IIRC PSP root key has never been discovered and there are a thousand ways to use ISOs and all the stuff on it.

He has access to the whole memory and at a very low level. It's now only a matter of time before someone releases something to use ISOs on it based on this Xploit.

Again, If I was Sony/Apple/Microsoft I would pay this guy to actively find vulnerabilities in my systems...
 
Now if only I had the money to buy a PS3 lol. Nah I probably wouldn't use the hack anyway, just too paranoid about the chance off it stuffing up the system.
 
But so far it seems pretty pointless. Nobody has even developed a user-friendly homebrew application, so there's not too much to do with it. When a program is developed to create a cIOS, it could get interesting.

I've put homebrew on my Wii, jailbroken the iTouch and have installed Yellow dog/ubuntu on the PS3, so I'm very excited about this.

Hahaha... seriously though I really don't think it would be good at this time. But I would love to have a super heavy car for GTA IV! Heck yeah, drive that infernus into the FIB and NOOSE vehicles! BAM!! :wave:

EDIT: The farthest I've ever gotten to that dream was using the blades of the chopper to send cars and pedestrians flying :D

You ever hit a biker head on with a Phantom? The dude flies so high into the air it's awesome as hell
 
I use my Linux partition on the PS3 pretty often. This pretty much sucks that Sony is getting rid of Other OS support. I want some of my money back!

Just don't upgrade and don't go online until a work around is found.
