Problems focusing a GGW diode trough plastic lens

i have a few of the o-like len's for blu-ray's . they work good better than the acrylic but not as good as a 405-G-1 len's

yobresal, no, i'm not a native Spanish speaker, i'm Italian ..... just know Spanish enough for understand 95% of the written language and maybe 90% of the spoken one, and for ruin to destruction at least the 30% of their grammar, trying to speak it :p

It become hot too, very quickly :p ..... it's still in an aixiz module, so i have to use it for only 20 or 30 seconds each time, and wait for left it cool ..... it's the last one i have, and it's the only one with this output, effectively ..... the other ones i had, was usually a bit less.

I'm almost a native Spanish speaker. I was born in Tarragona (Spain). However I'm in Catalonia (actually a Spanish part), here we speak Catalan and so my real native language is Catalan. Anyway, since I'm in Spain I'm by law forced to know Spanish, so I've been studying it (apart from hearing it everywhere) since I was 6 years old till last year. So well, I'm supposed to speak it as well as a native would ;)

@yobresal: for thumb you translated "the first one in your hand". I doubt he was refering to a finger xD for "drop" you translated me "The smallest part of the liquid". That's why I ask if you were using some online service or you asked someone who had not read the thread xD

@HIML9: Where can I find this lens? I'm a bit confused because O-like sells theirs for 15$ (price drop?). Anyway, if for 15$ I get a solution for this and also increase the power I might consider it xD

@jayrob: no offense, but 50$ is not worth a 30% increase for me, sorry xD I know you work hard on them and they are the best quality, and that you almost make no profit by selling them, but still, I just can't afford them :/

The problem is that I've got no idea on where to buy these lens, no price references and anyway I don't know if they'll solve the focusing problem. Are the ones at O-like the famous Aixiz glass lens for 405nm? 15$ sounds like OK right? Can anyone confirm me that they will solve the focusing problem?

Also, jayrob, could you tell me where to find these lens that you tested and that are just a 4% worse than the G-1 ones? To simplify things: I need to replace the lens on my GGW diode in Aixiz housing. Could someone tell me what's the best option without having to spend 40 or 50$?

This would be the smallest part of a liquid. The other Drop means to let something fall.

I have no idea what thumb means here. I only know of "thumb" as the thing on my hand. I would consider it the number 1 if I were to count all 5 fingers. My translations are terrible but hey I gave it a shot. I did use a translator for the words "screw" and "washer"

The Meredith new broadband lens is about 4 or 5% less power than my 405-G-1. You can get them from Meredith:

The AixiZ 405 glass are here:

Meredith is expensive, but the main problem is that their modules are different. That's one of the reasons that I have done a Meredith modification that is fit for AixiZ. (plus the Kryton's only fit AixiZ lens threads)

Meredith modules are nice for focusing, but the only thing holding the diode against the module for heat transfer, is spring tension. So this is not as good as the AixiZ module, which is a pressed in diode.

So I made a Meredith lens modification fit for AixiZ:

It is about $10 dollar or so more than a Meredith module would cost you. Because they charge a minimum of $10 dollars shipping.

Anyway, I know you don't want to spend that much, so I would recommend the AixiZ 405 glass lens. Check with them to make sure that they will send the lens nut with the full length threads as shown in that e-bay add. Because I have seen them in a nut with only half the threads.

If it has the full length threads, then I'm sure it will focus with the focus ring installed...

You do not need to replace the lens. You just need to attach the focus ring to the lens nut, without it screwing so far down on the lens nut. Only screw the focus ring down part way onto the lens nut. You only need it on one thread deep. Then use some type of adhesive to hold it there. A bit of "lock tite", a small drop of glue, some fingernail polish, etc.

Then the lens can screw in deeper while you can still use and hold the focus ring.

We had to do this a long time, until we figured out that most diodes needed to be pressed into the aiXiz module farther than flush.

I want to replace the lens because this aixiz ones have been used for about 6 months with a phr diode and a part from the degradation they are pretty much damaged. When you unfocus it it's easy to see the amount of scratches on the lens surface...

@jayrob, are those the same than O-like sells? I prefer buying from them, just because I've dealt with them many times already hehe :D

@kingdeling: thanks again for the free replacement unit. If this solves the problem I won't need to spend 15$ :D

Nope. I don't want the laser focused all the way to read it on the LPM so I had no reason to notice it. Besides, your lens and my lens are not the same ;)

is it hard/dangerous to press it to where it should be then? Btw, what did it test on the LPM at 190mA? :D
