Presenting "The Copperhead" - a "Bite"-Sized Build

Thanks mate :D

I actually just metered it - unfortunately, it only hits up at around 375mW (will remeter it again once I charge the batteries though).

I bought this same host. I don't know if I am going to get to do a build with it because my 3 1/2 year old daughter has claimed it as her flashlight. She likes the GITD ring around the lens that glows after you turn it off.

What diode is that? 826? If so, how are you getting that kind of power out of it?

If it is a 635, what lens are you using? I see no wings on that sucker!

Nice build! I love the copper head, do you have your own lathe? Or are you using a school's lathe?

I am so close to buying a lathe for the workshop. I would really like to be able to machine my own sinks.

Finally, what is standard procedure on hosts? I have a couple of expensive hosts that I may have to use for personal builds because they overlap with other builders here. I didn't do it intentionally, and in fact ordered someone them before the other builder posted their build. So I had no idea they even had that host.

Is it "first to post a for sale notice owns the rights to that host?" might be worth it's own question in the BST section...

Well, first things first, it's a 635nm. The reason you don't see wings is because the whole thing saturated by webcam's sensor, so it just looks like a big round dot. When I was viewing it in real life, it looked like a line, like normal.

I don't own a lathe, but I took the course and have access to the student machine shop here at ASU.

And, what you were saying - typically, it's an etiquette thing. If someone else has sold a laser of that variety (besides really common ones like guidesmen and C6s), typically it's respect that keeps others from selling lasers in the same host. Of course, you can, it's just frowned upon. If someone approaches you and asks you to do that build in private, it's all fine and dandy, but it's just an etiquette thing as I said; it's encroaching on other people's public reputation.

That is complicated, there are only so many GOOD hosts out there. I've been looking and I keep ending up with flashlights that someone else sells while I haven't got the guts in it yet.

Wonder if they had the same problem with guidesman and C6 hosts at the beginning?

Were there battles over who had the right to sell them?

Yeah, but it just means that you have to be more and more original. And nothing wrong with that ^_^
