I took many such exposures, and then stacked them in DSS. Here is a cropped view of the M42 and Horsehead nebula

I am still learning, so my polar alignment is not perfect. Hopefully, will do better next time!

Thailand is far more inviting than this scene, photo I took a couple of days ago while at 70 degrees latitude near the native village of Nuiqsut, Alaska: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuiqsut,_Alaska.

This road is icy because it is made from nothing but ice from water poured on to frozen ground. This keeps damage from occurring to the tundra underneath. The temperature was 30 below zero F., 35 degrees below C. Not bad when the wind isn't blowing, the day before we had a -50 below zero F. wind chill factor.

These roads are built every year to be able to haul materials between oilfield drilling or production operations during the winter. Most of the seasonal oil field work halts during the warmer months when these roads cannot be built. Contrary to many of the anti-oil industry commercials or adds showing these oil producing areas as pristine mountainous nature, to me, except for a few hearty individuals living in the village, this place is a desolate frozen hell in the winter months, there are no mountains to be seen anywhere near this area, this is flatland for as far as you can see in any direction.
