Thing looks like a baseball bat. You'd have trouble explaining it to the authorities in most places.

You got it on both, thought it would be fun to have an Aussy laser pointer. Imagine someone pulls out a pointer ( or posts) and I respond “that isn’t a laser pointer mate, this is a laser pointer....”

I wanted plenty of room for a high power beast, the DPSS or whatever. having six built, three smaller though at 75 cm long for those.

Paul, thanks, I better properly label it then as Big Scary Laser.

Hi, Here is one you might remember , it weighs in at about 8 lbs. I had commissioned Mr Crouse to build me a over sized replica of a 20mm shell Host . In it at the time was the NDB7A75 diodes over 5= W's at the time this was the big dog. Enjoy LPF..
Next to it is a 5.56/.223....for comparison.

What is an NDB7475? Never saw one of those before. Did you mean NDB7875? Two of those could reach 5 watts.

Lifetime17, now that’s an unusual and truly scary laser!

Here are the two sizes trinh hong phuoc made for me @ 75 and 85 mm lengths, but that can be reduced by removing one section of the battery tube on the end. I wanted to be able to add more batteries in the case I want to run a higher voltage, otherwise it will use several series-parallel 2x2 18650 battery packs which maintain the same 8.4 VDC (fully charged) voltage and when adding more packs adds more mAH capacity instead of more voltage when using 32650 cells instead.

As you can see one host has a smaller diameter head, it has an ID of 120 mm, the larger one has an ID of 135 mm. I will use the smaller one for my projects first, only going to the larger one where the extra room inside is needed:

Below, inside 120 mm chamber:

No problem, Rich. Was just trying to figure out what you had in it. I got the impression you have had this for a long time and, since you didn't specify, I didn't go to the higher power diodes that later became available to us.

I still like the 7A75 with a G2 and c-lens pair, it makes a nice beam and is ready to point and use for fun, also amazing as such plus a beam expander.
This is one of my nubm44 units with a 6X c-lens pair and 3XBE, lost of fun and a substantial heat sink for many minutes of run time, running 3 x 26650 cells.

It's been years since I've built any lasers, still have quite a few in my collection though, and i thought it's about time to make something a little different...
The copper module is a DTR 20mm w/nubm44-v2...
Waiting on a Sanwu 3X BE...more pics soon.

Very nice. Like the little squirrel cage fan but where's your exhaust port ? Blows warm air out past your battery ?
I would say something about needing a bigger heat sink and a heat sink for your driver but with your fan forced cooling I expect you don't need it.
Likely why you didn't mount the driver in your module, so air could cool it better, right ?
How's your runtime/duty cycle ?
Nice build :)

Thanks Red!
In one of the links to imagur you can see where the air exhausts around the module pointing out of the front. This also helps to keep smoke away from the lens.
Surprisingly that little laptop style blower fan can move some serious air for its size. The trigger switch is momentary so i never leave it on for more than about 20 seconds at a time and the fan runs simultaneously with the diode. So it never really has a chance to get very warm at all. That said b i have done plenty of 20ish second bursts back to back without anything close to overheating occurring. I did put a small detent switch above the trigger that operates just the fan for cool down cycles of needed.
I opted to get the solid copper back half module without the shelf for greater thermal mass since i knew i would have a space for the driver to sit directly in the airflow. The driver is also mounted on a black anodized aluminum rectangle, it's hard to see it but it's there.

This is not special In design or the host style just a special little diode doing 60mw at 481.7nm! You can see it in my sig and the complete host can be seen here(the one at the bottom)
