Possible new aixiz 405/445 glass lens

Jake-- I feel bad. you did nothing wrong at all. just the opposite you were being helpful to the forum with your tests- keep it up.

This was just another case of 'open mouth-insert footism'

I understand, all is well on my side. No harm done here, just do not want to offend ANYONE on the forums, it's like a second home! Don't wanna get boo'd and kicked outta my second home!

I also have some o-like half threadeds on the way, and a new 405-g-1
So will have much more to add soon!

I'm commenting to sub this thread so I can follow the results. I'm especially interested in Jake's results from testing qume's lenses with the rest of these because I'm particular to them right now. They seem identical to the aixiz lenses but that's just to the naked eye :pop:

Okay, I see you have the lens focused to a huge dot. What does it look like at minimal divergence?

The last Aixiz glass lens had giant wings off each side of the dot, which made the beam in the air appear hazy and wide like a batman call. I'm wondering if this still happens with the new lens.

those pics were at 12 feet on a standard piece of computer paper, the dot, is a rectangle just like usual when focused to a point

I'll post pics when I wake up for work at 2 am ugh

I'm not saying aixiz did this. However. I got my first samples of these lenses back in august of last year so these are in no way an 'out of the blue' development, at least to me. I was merely listing possible reasons for aixiz to just now get these to market. One of which was they were working through old stock. The other being they just switched suppliers to probably the same one I use.

Jake's tests of the lens I sent him will show for sure, but I bet it will be identical to new lens from aixiz.

Hmm. I'm finding it hard to get my point across in each thread that I ask this in.

Wings. The old lens had huge wings next to the dot. Are the wings still there?

The 405G-1 produces no wings. I'm wondering if it now looks like that, or what.

My experience is the opposite. The 3 elements have significantly less die splash than I see with any of the 405-g-1's I have. This has been true with any of the 3 elements i've tested regardless of source.

Though there really isn't a solution to the issue of splash and wings. They aren't lens related. They come from the fact that there is light leaking from more than just the cavity. The entire PN junction produces light. The gain is just highest in the cavity.

I've never noticed wings on the dot so I guess no
When focused to infinity the smallest the laser gets with the new lenses looks like this ---
Just a solid flat rectangle, I've never seen wings on it when focused to a point

AixiZ buys thier lenses from the same Govt owned manufactuer. IIRC he gets min. of a thousand at a time. He indicated that these came to him less than two weeks ago and that they are a new and different coating fronm the ones he prolly got only a month or so before. AixiZ sells about 2,000 blank modules worldwide every month. And has for many years. Check the feedback score on AixiZ Ebay. And remember the feedback score represents not the number of sales as much as the number of customers. He makes many trips to China.

nuff said??

You seem to be under the assumption that i'm somehow attacking aixiz. I'm not. Why would I? I imagine it's same product we're selling in this instance, so I can't really attack that. Also i'm just one, relatively new at that, player in this game. What good would it do me to attack a known reputable vendor? At best it would get me ignored. At worst, shunned. Heck, even I still buy stuff from aixiz. Just not these lenses :p

But the fact that i've been able to get these with this coating for a good 6 months just makes me ask questions as to why they were so late in the game, so to speak, with them.

Though would like you to enlighten me on what exactly their number of customers and how many modules they sell has to do with these lenses and the discussion of them.

Not really sure why your getting touchy. I know what I pay for the lenses. I'm sure aixiz gets them cheaper. They could undercut me price wise and still make more than I do off them. I honestly wouldn't mind. Cheaper parts prices will benefit the DIY community.

@ Exerd
like one of the previous post said. It should be the exact opposite. I have a 405-g2 lens thats identical to the 405-g1 -just 2 layers of slightly different AR coating, and i get pretty noticable wings/splash. But with any 3 element "aixiz style" lens its a much cleaner rounder dot.

Hmm. I'm finding it hard to get my point across in each thread that I ask this in.

Wings. The old lens had huge wings next to the dot. Are the wings still there?

to stay on topic, I ordered a lens from qume about a month ago and i noticed right off the bat the his coating was different from both the rayfoss and aixiz lens i ordered 2 weeks prior. I can strongly say that qume's lens gave a "different" dot - i say this cuz i dont wanna down on anyone but PERSONALLY i like his better,

@hak you have convince me that aixiz's new lens might be worth my while so i will order a 1 even though i have like 3 other 405/445 3 element lens lying around not in use (from various vendors) :D

all in all if aixiz has a new 405/445 lens that yields more power and still has the same or better beam profile as their old one... then sorry to say this but i might retire my high output 405-g2/g1 and stick with aixiz's/qume's lenses from now on. (purely for the looks sake) <- not taking sides but I just wanna let people know personal views
