PLT5 488nm diode for <300$?

Yeah, there isn't quite enough info for me to comfortably turn this diode into a pointer yet. I might just resell it in the B/S/T for someone who's more adept with these kinds of frontier making diodes.

I bought a large amount of synthetic diamond powder to use in a heat sink compound I was making for better heat transfer several years ago from Alibaba. I still get emails form them every few days trying to sell me more. I guess they never give up on the slight chance that I will want some more in the future.

Whenever I get people like that I just set up an email filter to delete the email when it gets received...

Also, if we can readily get more of these diodes, I wonder if we can organize a murder fund if they turn out to be legit? $300 is about double the standard murder funds though (at least ones I've seen). But it could save us a lot of effort in finding drivers... if we don't kill it past a certain point we could also raffle it out as incentive.

Interesting spec sheet. It shows this 488 diode has an inbuilt 'ESD protection diode' along with a zener diode for monitoring :D
Also beam divergence isn't great at 7x23

But these were ~$2k when we first heard about them and now for well under $1k, happy days!

Yeah I would be also interested in repurchasing it from you when after it has been tested, I would love to put it in a custom made host.

Hey, we'll see what it spectro's at and go from there ;)

In the meantime, i got this this morning:
Our finance confirmed to have got the payment with thanks.
Goods will be sent out accordingly and will provide DHL tracking number once available.

Nice day in today. :)

Warm regards,

I'm holding out hope that this will be the 488nm diode. I really want it to be.....

It has shipped! And she said it will be here "probably Friday or Saturday", and to let her know if i want to purchase more later on.

It's out for delivery atm, afrter that it's off to paul. Can anyone reccommend how I should ship it? I guess I'll probably leave it in whatever packaging they send it in unless it's not antistatic. I'll post pics when it arrives though :)

If it is legit, should I post a group buy feeler? Dora said "Meanwhile, if you have real demand with specific quantity, please specially let me know, if I could apply for discont for you, I would love to... !"

Maybe. I just got a lead on sharp 488nm diodes coming up that will, in all likelihood, be cheaper alternatives... in both quality and price.

Also, I'm about 80% sure this is legit now, up from 50%. I found an estimate elsewhere for around $400... so yeah. These are becoming affordable fast.

I can't wait to get my hands on one of these. I'll be able to tell you a lot about them, especially if I get the chance to see several. :yh:

I wish I was updating you with pictures of the shiny new plt5488, however it appears Dora sent my laser diode to someone in San Francisco :) Apparently the tracking number I got had a different person's name and address and even phone number on file (which is confusing to me because I was getting sms updates even though I didn't sign up for them). So someone in San Francisco has a shiny new 300$ piece of metal that I'm pretty sure they won't know what to do with.
