Plextor 12x vs. Pioneer 12x

Plextor is a "re-brander." That means that they take other maker's stuff and repackage it under their own name. For the 12X, they are using the Pioneer BDR-205 burner.

Bottom line = Plextor 12X and Pioneer BDR-205 (12X) are the same sled and diode. Any differences you observe in the spreadsheet is simply diode-to-diode variability.

Buy the less expensive one ;)

Peace,
dave

Be careful when you PM slipstream. He tends to get real pissy for no reason, especially when you are trying to buy something off of him.

Do you want one of these SMoC diodes? free.

Doh! Wish I would have saw this reply before buying! Eh, only costed an extra $20 over the Pioneer...

Nope. The way you acted towards me, I wouldn't take it for free even if you paid for the shipping. Besides, I already told you what you can do with your diodes.

He seems resonable to me, Shame I live in the UK. :/ I miss all the good deals...

The "You're welcome" was sarcasm. You didn't even blue lasers for finding that for you...

Very very sorry... I was caught up in the excitement of the numbers I saw... thank you very much Blue Lasers for posting that info!

I just tried to cancel my order with TigerDirect on that Plextor... the rep said he wasn't sure if the cancellation would go through or not since the order had already made it to the warehouse. Eh, if it ships I'll use it... if not, then I can save $20 and get the Pioneer drive instead and use the extra $20 for more Aixiz modules.

There is a lot to read here. I don't think ANYBODY reads it all ;)

slipstream built with Plextors. Through conversation and pictures we determined the make of the sled. However, it was discussed a way back in the "12X Diodes" thread I believe.

Peace,

Yes, there is a lot of great info here. Usually I make it a habit to check here before buying but this time I got excited and rushed into a purchase. Never again :)

Yes! TigerDirect did manage to cancel my order... and NewEgg lowered the price of the 205BKS 12x to $189.00!!! Talk about savings!!! Still got hit with sales tax though :( which put the final drive price at $207.00.... still better than the $249.00 for the Plextor clone. Now it's time to request another 405-G-1 from jayrob!

Nice price,

...except for stupid California sales tax adding $16 to the price for us that live there, of course, but that's not your fault, or theirs really, it just sucks.

Lol... Tennessee tax added 17.57 to the price of the drive I just ordered. The price we will pay for a device that will never get used (as a whole at least). Although I did actually use the 10x burner I bought a few weeks ago just to make use of the free BD-R that came with it. This 12x from NewEgg also comes with a BD-R so I guess I'll have to find some more data to backup before dismantling the drive.
