Please Help Diagnose This Battery Problem!!

@ coherent. DTR stated that heat issues strobe slowly while current is the fast one
 





Most handheld DMM's max out at 10A. I've checked my current draw on most of my builds and have not seen this problem using the meter. I am using a microboost it 3 of mine with no issues.
 
May I ask what type of meter you use?

Mines an "Automotive meter" but It tends to work good on everything. Sadly it cant take mV readings above 1V which makes test loads a lot less percise over 1A. Does anyone know how to circumvent this? (I am thinking different resistor).

Most of the time this is because you are not using the right terminal on the meter. Most of the time there is a low current terminal for voltage, resistance and continuity and a high current terminal for reading amperage. There's usually a little message printed on the meter with something like "10A 30 Sec. MAX every 10 minutes"

It says 10A but it wont read over 2A without freaking out. It works great for my linear drivers but my boost drivers set to 1.5A or higher is a no go.

After a quick search, it appears that a few others have seen the Microboost also do this with "charged batteries":

ReNNo - . . . Not only price is a problem but stability. My last build was set to 800mA and when battery goes under 4V laser starts to strobe.

At 4 Volts, the microboost should NOT be strobing.

Most 18650 cells will drop from 4.15 to 4.00 VDC with 2 amps or so of discharge current.

Maybe its just your meter? I got mine as a gift. Was expensive so I dont think it should have any issues:)

My host from The Ehg Man should be here tomorrow where I will be building one with a Flex, I will be able to report back whats what once I get that all set up.
 
Toaster;

Both you and Kevlar were running microboost drivers at 1.1 and 1.2 amps.

The microboost PDF manual says maximum current of 1.0 amp when I looked tonight.

I have not seen any battery problems like this, out of hundreds of batteries running lasers and other "hi-draw" lights.

I think Dr. Lava builds good drivers, but this flashing at 4.15 VDC battery voltage is not correct.

I didnt do any tricky soldering or anything, just what was on his site posted in the PDF. Do you possibly know what It could be though?

Because It is something with these batteries because the AWs run like a champ. Only when they go dead do I see the slow strobe from the AWs

Not all AW 2600 batteries run the driver like a champ:
From rev0
- Driver: MicroBoost
Current: 1200mA
Battery: AW 2600mA 18650
Lens: Aixiz 445 Glass
Power: ~1000mw (Not verified, no proper LPM to use, it can light candles)
Host/Heatsink: Jayrob SS 18650 (Aurora SH-032) w/Copper Heatsink
Run Time: ~1 hr

I can only run it for about a minute straight before the driver overheats and starts flickering.

I think the wrong component is getting the blame for the strobing.
