Pioneer BDR-205 12X Blu-Ray Burner

I don't even have my first laser yet and I am amped to see what the power mongers get out of these 12x. Looks like it will be time for the 12x torture fund here soon.

What can I help you with, Igor ???

LarryDFW

Thank you Larry, for replying! :yh:

I would like to see those links you were posting earlier in this thread...
I really need to see them before starting the 8x MURDER EXPERIMENT...

Thanks again!

Igor

Store is Vertigo Systems, in PA, US. We get our products through a channel distro D&H if anyone else is familiar with them. According to a few other sources, the drives should be available starting mid october through newegg and other retail-ish distros too.

I have a really sloppy 8x build and an extra 8x sled here that I haven't harvested yet, on the sloppy build I damaged the diode a bit (the glass lens cracked, so I removed it) but it still produces a very nice beam with Larry's lens that burns white paper nicely. I'm not sure if missing the glass on the diode is either going to shorten it's life or reduce it's power much. I will post some pictures when I put it into a proper host.

I will backorder the drives for other people as soon as I can confirm that the ship date is correct. The price on them is $202.49 but sometimes changes when their stock comes in.

How much can you get 8x drives for?

Are you talking about 12x's? If so, can you backorder one for me as well please?

I need to give it the S/M treatment on my Diode Analyzer equipment!

I'd also take your "broken" 8x at a good price off of you, or perhaps check it for you, if you need any help (FREE OF COURSE, if you can arrange a discount on 8x's or even 12x's!!)...

P.S. It's possible that they degrade faster when exposed to air, but this exposure can be minimized!

Here, nothing similar.

Italy distribution system is a crap mess, for tech items.

I also run a little pc shop, but, as example, here distributors only have 8X (buffalo) in stock, and for 260 euro (around 370 $), and this is the price for me as reseller, not the price at public :p.

Damn thieves :yabbmad: :gun:

Daaaaaaamn. Just 250$ ??!!!!
(well can't be too high, look at it from a drive users point of view lol)

I expect 8x prices to drop to $150ish maybe less.

Actually, the 12x will most likely fall to 200$ VERY quick.

We can probably get 8x then for $100 - $150

I wrote iv128 a PM, i hope to get some useful info from him! I'm offering my help with anything he needs in return for his help to the forum...

Awesome!! Its really bright. I took these photos in day light with the lights on and you can clearly see the beam. At night its super bright. My neighbors were all like "WTF is that?!" LOL. The host just starts to get warm after 5 minutes, but never gets hot. I'm very happy. I wish I could afford the 8X, but that's not going to happen any time too soon. It took me 5 months just to save up to buy this, but it was worth it. Thanks again Igor.

Hey!

This is in DAYLIGHT? How much smoke?!?

It was a longer wavelength diode, but this? No way...

I've NEVER seen a BluRay beam in DAYLIGHT before, i guess i should have taken a closer look at your module, instead of just building it and measuring it... :yabbem:

Otherwise, i'm sorry you had to wait so long for this to be finished, but i hope you understand, that i have no other choice but to do the paid work first... :undecided:

Unfortunatelly this means that favors often take a back seat for a while..

But i am very happy to see you have it up and running in a laser! With a heatsink from Jayrob, i bet it's stable too!

Very nice anodizing, BTW!

Well until I decide what I'm going to do with my sloppy 8x, I'm holding off on harvesting the good one it was a surprisingly difficult harvest and I smashed the PHR diode out of the exisitng aixiz module I had since I didn't get my new modules in. I wanted to test the 8x right away :D

The glass on the diode appears to have some AR props to it given it's shimmery look under flourescent light. what I'd really like to do is learn more about fiber coupling so I can put the 2 8x together than make a really powerful blu for burning.

WOW! that's robbery! I wonder why the insane price difference. And buffalo? aren't they little more than a rebadging company? (take one companies product and slap their name on it)

Mainly cause distribution prefers big chains or commercial centers ..... i just have a little shop, so, prices are 5 to 10% less than the ones at public (and remember also that here we have to add 20% "iva" (vat, in some countries) final tax :p).

For big selling chains, things are differents ..... i know cause i've seen their invoices ..... just as example, notebook, price for me as reseller, 399 Euro, price for big chain seller, 159 euro (but they can buy 500 or 1000 of them together and distribute all them in all their shops in the country, where i can buy only one, when someone order it :p)

And yes, Buffalo is a "rebrander", as we say ..... like, buy 10.000 pieces from any OEM producer without brand (at low prices, end-production queues, non-100% test passing lots, and so on), put their own brand and sell as their own products.

The only smoke used was the ciggs I smoke daily LOL.

I was not referring to the favor time. I'm disabled, and live on a fixed income. I receive ~$700 a month. After rent, bills, and food, it leaves me very little money to play with. It took me that long to save enough money to buy all the parts. The build cost me ~$190. I would have put it together myself, but I have nerve damage and it makes it impossible for me to solder something that small. I am very grateful for the help, and didn't mind waiting. When you have no money, you learn patience real quick. Thanks again.
