Pioneer BDR-205 12X Blu-Ray Burner

I have a friend in Hong Kong, I'll see if he can locate them and I'll get one or two. It's someone I've done business with for a couple of years so maybe he can get them cheaper on the "Black Market" over there. If it all turns out good and he can get them I'll let someone graph it and stuff, or just sell one to someone.

If you guys do order stuff from HK or Japan get EMS or at the least registered airmail, things do go missing over there through the mail.

I haven't actually ordered one ...

but those are Japanese price tags, which are $250 U.S. dollars.

It appears that they are actually in stock in Japan.

Are there any Japanese board members ???

I am not 100% sure it is the Sanyo diode, but that is the consensus.

Actually its listed for $250-$325

How about Susie?

Susie is in China..

Not quite Japan.

I have an old friend that I stayed with in Tokyo for a month. If these 12x burners do turn out to be legit and only available to Japan I might have her buy me a couple.

http://www.sunrainet.com/pioneer-bdr-205-sata-3gbps-12x-blu-ray-burner-speed-of-54mb-s.html"The secret behind the technology is a 450 mW pulsed-operation blu-violet laser, which is significantly stronger than the 200 mW lasers that are commonly used in today’s Blu-ray players.
Sanyo claims that the new device can support Blu-ray discs with up to four layers (instead of only two), raising the potential maximum capacity of Blu-ray discs from 50 GB to 100 GB."

Reading your post i thought the link would have the quote in it...

But the quote is from Sanyo's press release from a while ago.

We don't know for sure that that's what they used.. There is more than one way of reaching higher power writing speeds...

But for $250.... Can't be a lower power diode than in the 203.

P.S. The Chinese and 10x's? What's that all about?

From what I can glean from the Chinese websites, it looks like the 12X will be released worldwide in late October.

Of course, the model destined for the US is projected to be priced at $415 for the OEM units! Who knows what the "retail" price will be.

Peace,
dave

That price tag sucks, man... But well, the 10x were skipped :p!

600mW CW Stable?

It is quite possible that the 10X speed was accomplished via software/firmware improvements only. If the 12X speed is accomplished via a new diode, skipping 10X would make perfect sense.

I looked around and there are no 12x's for sale yet (easily available), beware with scams that say 12x but are 4x's with 12x write speed on other discs such as DVD's.

Only available in Japan for now (and just released there).

Igor;

The Japanese bulletin boards stated that Pioneer was using the Sanyo and had the quote.

The reason the Sanyo press release makes sense ...

is the fact that Sanyo LD's were going to skip the 10X level and go straight to 12X.

That appears to be what Pioneer did with their BR writers.

While Buffalo came out with the 10X & LG released the BH10NS30 10x Blu-ray Disc Writer.
