intro74: Great photos.

The Data Matrix barcode on your BWU-300S diode translates to: "3300260578"

For comparison, the code on mine (BDR-203) reads: "3300867894"

Is there a pattern evolving?

What's with the wire around the pins? :-?

Anyways, I think the BDR is a better deal because it is cheaper AND easier to harvest.

Prevents ESD.

Anyways, if anyone is having troubles sourcing a cheap supply of the pioneer drives, my supplier has them at $250CDN, and shipping to me is free. I can have any number of these in stock within 24 hours, and can ship them out same day. I'd like to collect $10 (canadian) for my time, plus I'd be adding on the actual reshipping charges to you, but all told I can get you guys one of these drives delivered for under $250USD.
PM me if anyone's interested.

I have been infected with the 8x bug.... ;D

After searching ebay I couldn't find any more pioneers for sale, found this site though http://www.sharbor.com/products/PION5410026.html, the price is the same as the great deals found on e-bay, however I am not familiar with this company.

"Share Harbor" They say they've been in business since 1987?

What do you guys think, new source?

Nice one Niko - although I would have put the power on the vertical axis, as it is dependant, but that is just my preference.

Believe it or not:

My BDR-203 with its 8x diode removed and swapped out for a PHR really does read Blu-Ray Discs!

I borrowed a BR movie disc from a friend and just played it back on my modded BDR-203. It was a bit reluctant at recognizing the disc at first, made some clicking noises, spun the motor up and down, but it finally read the disc fine. I can copy files from it at 8-10 MB/s.

How about the irony of a HD-DVD diode working in a BR drive ;-)

Here is a picture of the PHR in its new home:
