Pioneer 8X Blu-Ray-- BDR-203

I plan on picking up a BDR-whatevertheheckitis on friday if everything works out as planned. I'll get you all some good info as well 8-)

I put the 8x in an Aixiz module and took some measurements (after Aixiz acryllic lens, back not opened up):
Lasing threshold is ~35mA

I/mA         Po/mW     Vf/V
40            9             3.98
50            20

260           301
270           317          5.92

At 270mA I hit the limit of my LM317T circuit, I'll have to find a smaller series resistor. Don't think I will get to that today though...

Very much the same as Dave's. Voltage and all! Even a little 'Hotter'! :)

I looked into the different barcodes a bit:

The code on the 8x diode appears to be of the 'Data Matrix' type. I ran it through three decoders (two on my mobile phone, one online) and they all came up with this: "3300867894". I don't suppose that number has any meaning to anyone? ;)

Also, the barcodes on the PHRs and the Nichia diode are probably 'Micro QR' codes, that's a smaller variety of the common QR code. I couldn't find a decoder for those (mobile phone or otherwise), plenty QR decoders around but no "Micro". Would be interesting to compare all the PHRs that are floating around on LPF...

I got the SONY BWU-300S today  8-)

I hope I'll find time to start harvesting and testing tomorrow :D

Hmmm...

That's supposed to be an 8X too huh? How much was that drive?
Jay

Those drives are selling for about $400.00 ea... I don't know... maybe intro74
got a break on it... 8-)

intro74: Great news, looking forward to your results on the Sony's diode.

I took the BDR-203 diode to 310mA today, output doesn't seem to rise linear around 280mA, maybe I hit the first kink?

I don't feel like taking it any higher, maybe it's time to start looking for a host/driver...

Wow! I guess Dave's is not a 'freak' diode with those numbers...

I mean, since it was the only one tested for a while, you never know. But your forward voltage is high just like his.

If you don't find a better solution for a host, I could always set you up with a daguin 8X special! ;)

The 3405 Host/Heatsink combo with the custom DDL driver with a 100ohm 4 turn 1/2 watt pot that will go to 400mA's with plenty of voltage...

You're right the correct price is 400CHF (approx 380USD)  :o
I'll start the experimentation tomorrow  :P

Below the future host for this diode  ;)

intro74, that's a really nice looking build you have going there! 8-)

gbl, From what I understand, because of the high forward voltage on these 8X diodes, a FlexDrive is good up to about 300mA's max. Which is still a very high output! Take a look at quantile's numbers with AixiZ acrylic at 300mA's. He's getting 356mW's with AixiZ acrylic! :o This would mean at least 448mW's using the 405-G-1 glass lens mod! At that power, you would need glass.

Personally, if I had those readings, I would go with 270mA's. That would still give me 400mW's using a FlexDrive in a Pocket Mini! (with 405-G-1 lens mod)

Man, that does it... 'That's all's I can stands and I can't stands no more'. I'm ordering one of those drives right now. Curse you Dave! ;D

If you want to push higher like Dave, one option is to go with a DDL driver in a host that uses 3 X 10440 supply. This will give you plenty of voltage...
Jay

I will also be releasing a driver that will give you the higher forward voltage and 400mA if so desired from 2 AA's @ 3v.

When my 8x arrives, I will surely post the results of my 1/2 watt leadlight pointer ;D

Whoever said, 'good things dont come in small packages' ;)

Looking forward to those results!

Man! For some reason those BDR-203 drives are not on e-bay anymore??
Jay

Thanks Dave...

I must have typed in 230 instead of 203 for the e-bay search or something...

Ordered!

If you type in BDR-203, it won't find it on eBay.
