edit: alright I got my sound card dac set up and tested (does 5V when playing the max sound file and 0V when not) and bought spaghetti but my laser scanner doesn't do anything but the sample programs that it runs. Here's some pics of it and screenshots of my settings in Spaghetti. I checked that the channel for X is connected to X, Y to Y, Green to Green, and i to i. The only thing I'm not sure of is if I need to connect anything else to the DB-25 Breakout board? It doesn't seem like I should need to.

I set up the USB sound card drivers and set it to 8 channel and 7.1 channel output, and have that set up in Spaghetti as output..

I wish this thing would just work.... :(

edit: this is my old post which I already figured out.
I'm not sure what the problem is with my scanner, here is a video of what it's doing:

The dim part on the left was from the laser not being perfectly aligned, I fix it after about 5 seconds.

The problem is somehow one of the galvo hardly moves at all, about 5% movement compared to the X scanner (the Y scanner is the broken one). So any type of laser show is out of the question now until I get this fixed... Does anyone know what might be the problem?

I think it has something to do with the controller side of it because I swapped the connections for the x and y and the Y scanner worked and the X didn't.

I tried adjusting the gain for the Y scanner (with connections as they should be) with little to no effect.

any help much appreciated!

This is a lasershowparts 20k scanner set, the laser show is one of the demo ones built into the controller's chip.

edit: forgot to say, before I had put everything in the aluminum box the laser scanner was working perfectly with 100% motion on X and Y scanners.

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

Maybe a short on the program board between it and the aluminum chassis? You are using standoffs right? Before I call those scanners a loss I'd try to connect them to a DAC. Also you could ask Dave from Lasershowparts about it..

thanks for the help!!

what is a standoff? no I don't think I'm using them.

I do have the program board mounted directly the chasis, I'll try putting something between it.

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

These are standoffs. The second picture shows how to use them. You would just screw the board on to the standoffs to keep the bottom from touching the case.

In a pinch you could just stick a sheet of plastic between the case and the program board as long as you cut it so that the entire bottom is covered except for the mouting holes.

I <3 you EF.

I put a piece of plastic between the program board and the case and it works absolutely perfect now!! thank you so much.

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

Could someone explain me what the problem was? I can't understand xD

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

I believe it was shorting out with the base, by placing a piece of plastic underneath he was able to insulate the contacts

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

Just wondering but what type of laser is that? seems powerfull

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

oh..... wow if 100mw is that bright how bright will 1.2W be : )

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

I'll show you:eg::

Click for video

This is my 1W system. It makes between 1.2 and 1.3W normally. There's a lot of fog and smoke in the air..

lol what was that small green laser in the first video at 1:45

wow 1W is beautiful.... i may have gone over kill :P just wondering but is your laser certified their or where was that at?

Re: VIDEO: can u tell me what my scanner is doing?

You can never go overkill with laser scanners :D

Maybe when you start tripping the distribution breakers for your neighborhood, then you may have gone a bit far :p

You can always dim the lasers in the software.

now THAT would be very awesome to see. would take a few MEGA watts to do that though, and even once you got like 3 MW system going the transmission company (TDSP) would notice it and adjust their system for it, your electric bill would be pretty heft too :)
