PHR805T Power Comparison

I'm deciding whether or not to do an LPC-826 or PHR805T build. I read that with the way I'd like to do it, the LPC-826 build would push out about 245mW and the PHR805T would push out around 120mW. Since violet is the better color for burning, I'm conflicted because I'm not sure how to compare their burning capabilities (assuming all else is equal). Both builds ends up costing roughly the same so money is not a deciding factor. Which should I do based on burning capability?

I'd pick it based on what color you like most. They both seem to burn stuff pretty well, and you'd need to Sharpie surfaces anyway to get them to burn.

Oh, they can't light an unmarked sharpie? That's a downer, oh well. I like the 405 better. Am I right to say it would be 120mW? I can't find any threads on it or what current to set it at, I'm just going by something I remember from a while ago. Hopefully I'm wrong and it can put out more.

I recently tried my first PHR-805 build but mine died before it could even lase, I set the current to 200mA.
have a look at this chart http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/phr-805-graphs-63868.html

It looks like 120mAh gets 120-125mW. Will it match the burning power of a 250mW LPC-826? I heard from Jayrob that an LPC-826 should be set at 420mAh max for about 250mW with an AiXiZ glass lens. Could I safely push it a bit more without killing it and then have it beat the 120mW 405 if it didn't already?

I have my LPC-826 set at 480mAh and I get 320mW from it with a G1 lens.

Yea I have pushed two LPC's up to 575mA one didn't like it and blew the other is still going strong with about 3 hours of use so far.

I have a PHR-805T lab-style laser running at 120mA, and I have had numerous 250mW 650nm builds in the past.

The PHR-805T stings my skin if at focal point, whereas the 650nm lasers don't do much. At focal point, the 405nm lasers are very efficient at burning things. I recommend them highly. Also be sure to get a Glass lens for extra power! Mine can light unsharpie'd matches no problem. Mileage may vary however.

Thanks,
Isaac

I am currently making a phr 805t in an aurora c6 host. I am going to be using an x-drive set at 125mA, i am just waiting for it to turn up. If you like red, go for red. If you like violet, go for violet. My next build is a 500mW 635nm mitsu diode in a.... KRYTON GROOVE!!!!!!!

At the end of the day its a personal choice.

I've blown up a few violet diodes, they seem to be more prone to switch on spikes and inrush currents and the like. The LPC's are far more forgiving if you drive them too hard.

You probably won't see the beam from a PHR in the daylight as well as a hot LPC but the PHR is less booring I think - it can make UV sensitive things glow and I find them more fun.

I can't afford any of Jayrob's special glass lenses at the moment so I'm going on base mW ratings at this point. Hmm I don't want my diode to day at switch on :p If I could push an LPC-826 to like 450mAh that would be nice. Is 450 really that high for it?

His phr only diode because he gave it 200mA when they are normally being pushed at 120mA. I would prefer a phr 805t over an lpc 826 because of the colour.

My el-cheapo LPC build is 90mA and can still light matches, smoke black plastic etc within seconds. My other LPC build here puts out 288mW and burns things in a fraction of a second.

This PHR build here will still burn almost anything black even when set for 95mW

I build both on a weekly basis, an LPC can be pushed to be the far better burner (unless you are trying to burn white people... red just wont do it). With a fairly ok heatsink 500ma shouldnt be a problem. Moh's linear @ 478ma is pretty much ideal. Also people are talking about aixiz glass lenses not necessarily G-1's, you can get those for ~7 bucks IIRC, not to mention they have better beam specs.

I don't want to push an LPC too far and shorten it's life too much so idk if I want to put more than 420 through it. I value burning power more than anything else. Would the 405 at 120 mA (about 120 mW) or the LPC at 420 mA (250 mW with AiXiZ glass lense, unless I can boost it without killing it too fast) be the better burner overall? I'd be using a Jayrob custom heatsink (most likely aluminum) for this so I hope that helps with gaining more output.
