Here is the second of my last three weekend laser projects..
This one went through two versions!
HOST: Stainless Steel Cree C3 single AA host (ex Fiddy)
Batteries: Was using single 14400 (Lithium AA) now 2 x 14250 (half AA) for more power.
Diode: LPC-826
Driver: Moh Linear round driver
Lens: Tested with 650 G2
Power:
V1 put out only 124mW with a 14400 battery
V2 puts out 288 mW with updated driver and 2 x 14250 cells.
V1
This was originally assembled using the host's own driver board (sans components) coated in nail polish to prevent shorts. This in turn drove a rectangular linear Mohgasm driver. I turned the pill around to give the driver more room.
I later changed this for a round Moh driver as explained later. Here is the original module, heatsink and pill as assembled.
V2
After disappointing results I realized I needed more than 3.7 volts with the linear driver. 3.7-1.25 = 2.2V. Looking at the LPC-826 curves 2.2V simply ain't enough. I also wasn't happy with the design as the battery nipple was prone to moving and shorting across the contacts (hence the tape in the pictures). So I replaced the whole innards!
Replaced with round Moh driver and 2 x 14250 cells:
Driver, Pill and module:
Assembled Pill (the pill was a little large to fit inside the pill and was glued in place. As the LPC-826 is case-negative, it doesn't matter that the earth ring isn't connected to the host):
I put heat shrink over the back of the driver to avoid shorts then cut it so it was just wrapped around the front of the driver board:
As Jerry pointed out I am taking these measurements with the laser too close. I apologize now (Sorry Jerry):
