Mortus, yes, you can download your entire Photobucket album.
Just go to your library, then on the right side of the page is a section called "Actions", in that section is "Download Album", click on that and you're downloaded. :yh:

Paul, didn't see your post for a long time, yea, it put it in as a yankee doodle feather over comments I was repping too easily.

Thought Id chime in too... Those b**tards did the same to me. Ive managed to replace the photos on my latest threads, but its going to take a while to sort out the rest...:( Im guessing photobucket will be gone soon.

Someone get this guy, I'm targeting him for 25K!

Wow, photobucket must have lost a bucket full of customers, I keep getting this message when trying to upload to Imur:

Imgur is over capacity!
Sorry! We're busy running around with our hair on fire because Imgur is over capacity! This can happen when the site is under a very heavy load, or while we're doing maintenance.

Please try again in a few minutes.

I've gotten that same message a few times since joining imgur. Even with with those occasional delays, they're still faster than Photobucket was!

I can't really say Photobucket must be surprised. You start charging people $399/year for what was originally a free service, and you're bound to lose quite a lot of customers in a short period of time!

Don't forget about the site I linked previously, Photobox :)

It is something that will happen to every 'free' photo sharing website.

Both storage space and bandwidth cost money, which has to be paid for by advertesing revenue or the users. With so many users using adblock and similar plugins this business model fails.

The only options left then are to charge people to keep their materials available, or to charge people to view it.

Regarding Adblock. How do websites or owners of website know that you aren't seeing the ads? Is there a system that detects computers incoming with ad-blocking programs enabled?

I personally use Ad-block everywhere and if I really enjoy something, I have no problem donating some money to keep it going. Ads these days have become too excessive which is why I personally use it.

There are several ways to detect if someone is using an ad blocker or any kind.

The simplest approach is using javascript to see if the advertisement element was actually loaded or not. In technical terms you'd do something like this:

<div><img id='adbanner' src='irritating.gif'></div>

and then try to get something like document.getElementById('adbanner').display to see if it it's actually rendered or not - though most detection systems are far more sophisticated than that.

Some websites will make you turn off your ad blocker to allow you to see the content you came for, which works fairly well since you can simply disable adblock for that site and get your content.

And yes, the problem is that ads are becoming so annoying that many people will use ad blockers. Back in the day you have the standard, inline, 468x60 banners that you'd just scroll past. Nowadays many ads are really intrusive, blocking the the UI until you click them away and such, not even mentioning all kinds of pop-up/under ads and such.

Sadly making ads more intrusive is the thing driving people to ad blockers just to get a reasonable user experience nowadays. Very few people actually minded those old banner ads that much, and neither would i, but when you go and pull over some splash screen i need to find the close button for i'm going adblock.

Then again even that type of ads is losing ground as blockers are so effective, resorting in websites just linking to products and such they'll get a commission on sales. Just look at youtube channels that simply add product links with affiliate codes to gain revenue.

I was just checking in on my old Photobucket account, and in the middle of all their layers of advertising, was a new coupon offering a whole 10% off of their new $399 "Plus 500" plan that allows 3rd party hosting.

I don't want to see all you guys rushing over to sign up for this great deal all at once, as this $360 deal is so much more reasonable than the original $399.

Ok, if you insist, Bowtie, but it's going to be so hard to with stand the urge. I mean just like you said it's SUCH a better deal. I'm all over it like a bad rash.

I've been so please with Imgur since going back to them that I wouldn't use Photobucket again if they were free. I wonder if they are trying to downsize as this method would definitely do that. I wonder if there are any users that are willing to pay that for an app you can't be sure will still be around in six months. :na:

All mine are gone too from my thread. I have original pictures however it is too much to resize and repost in my threads. P! $$=& off. Who knows how much money they cost a lot of people. Anyone know a good resized app for this forum. I know we been bugging the moderators to come up with a tool to auto resize. Most are using Android now, not windows
