PETITION: >250mW E2 Evolutions from Wicked!

I'm starting a petition on behalf of myself and several other members (Exerd being the most duly noted of them) in order to convince Steve, the CEO of Wicked Lasers, to start selling higher powered E2 Evolution 532nm lasers. With the recent price drops, the prices have definitely hit a major sweet point for a lot of people, and I know that many of us have secretly been eyeing those grossly overpriced yet undeniably sexy hosts for quite a while. The E2 Evo (formerly known as the Evolution Pro) is an excellent pen host, being larger than a standard 2xAAA host as it runs on two AA batteries. Greater size also means more room for a more powerful module, better heatsinking, and the better batteries offer more current and stability.

Currently, the limit of the Evo's is 130mW, and for a very reasonable $179. Vote in the poll and post in the thread if you would like to see powers in excess of 250mW, which has already been done by NovaLasers' Endeavor series (it's the CNI GLP black 'n gold pen but the fatter one) which is tiny and runs on a mere single CR2 battery. If you're looking for >325mW, chances are that we will not be seeing this in an AA host anytime soon, so don't get your hopes up that high (PGL's and RPL's are still around for a reason ).

CNI makes these modules rated for a maximum of 150mW.

For the Evo to be fitted with a higher power module, design changes would have to be made, which means more production costs. It wouldn't be as simple as toss a bigger, badder laser in and you're good to go.

However... Wicked may no longer be using CNI modules. I remember reading in one of the other WickedLasers threads (we have way too many of these again, by the way) that they have a different manufacturer. And... as of yet, nobody knows what Wicked has been brewing. They could start stuffing Newwish garbage laser modules in their products for all we know.

Just wait until Wicked actually starts shipping stuff out again.

All you need to have is one option. If they want one, they vote. WL is only going to be concerned about the number of people who want them, after all. I don't understand the second choice.

No, I agree with RA. There is no way in hell that Wicked will be able to produce high quality >250mW pointers in a pen host and have a significantly lower price than before.

Since the price drop they've stopped offering the high powered Evo likely because their new supplier doesn't manufacture or offer said modules at a suitable price. Why else would they not offer them?

If they did offer a >250mW laser I'd rather see it in a bigger host with better heatsinking that can use appropriate batteries. AAs really can supply >600mA for very long. Anything greater than 200mW is too much for a pen host IMO. Don't expect the same quality if the price is to drop by 50%. You'll get what you pay for. If they do pull it off I wouldn't be surprised if they were low quality.

Don't get me wrong though, of course I'd like to see a quality powerful green laser for a good price, if Wicked could pull it off. But that's the same as me hoping that BMWs will also have a 50% price drop and retain their quality.... it's unlikely.

No one here is asking for a defiance of industry. Similar lasers as proposed already exist.

Many people buy lasers which are not what some consider to be of high quality, and are perfectly happy with them in the end.

I think it is a pretty clear notion that what is being asked here is simply more output in a given host, and not an industry setting benchmark for new lasers.

Anyways, although the petition is going a bit slow at the moment, I do predict that atleast once the Arctic craze has settled down, they will get to work on higher-powered Pen (and in-between-sized) hosts, maybe using some of the Sonar hosts for Greenie's and maybe even lower-powered 445nm's...

Heck, even if they only bump up the Evo's to around 200mW or 225mW, I will still probably end up snagging one just for a nice, fairly-stable Pen host Greenie. Although 250-300mW definitely wouldn't hurt either :evil:

Why a petition at all? Petitions are normally reserved as a negative response to prevent or halt something, not to try to force a seller into providing a service. Just send an email requesting it is surely the way to go.

This confuses me as a course of action. Just ask people to email Steve and let him run his business. I'm sure that with the Arctic issues he is not likely to take kindly to a petition landing through his door or in his In-box. This is not a sensible idea at all, even if they were able to supply them. If enough customer, "requests", come in then I'm sure they'll look at it.

The reason is one of the threads got to talking about this and they decided to ask Steve he said he'd think it over but there would have to be more demand. So it was decided that a thread would be started to request the make/production of this perticular laser... Hope this clears up the reason for this thread, and as for the reason its a petition idk.

I accept and understand the the desire for the supply of any new product, laser or not, but a petition is the wrong way to do it IMO. Customer requests are customer requests not demands which is what a petition implies.

Go ahead and ask Steve. No problem with that at all but, "ask", don't demand. Simply asking people to post in a normal thread that Steve could be referred to was all that was required.

I have no personal issues with anyone here and don't want this to come across as sniping but I start to lose interest in threads that always seem to be only there to gain opinion and offer little else. These constant polls, etc, are starting to get on my wick a little. Forgive me if I am the only one who feels this way and, if that's the case, I will happily sit back and let them get on with themselves but there are other ways to interact. I have vented now, so my opinion is out there. I, too, ask dumb questions sometimes but they're just questions. Please put me straight if you need to but I don't need to sign up to a poll for every little thing.

Do you really think each person who read this and clicked would have also each emailed WL? Get real!

It's pretty easy to send this to him to give a documentation of the amount of people interested. We also keep a record here showing us the amount of people interested, instead of a blind idea and fingers crossed.

I know what you are saying, cmak and his polls. I admit, I pushed this idea, so I have to defend it on cmak's part. It is what it is, and I have little reason to believe Steve will take any less to this approach. I'm sure he gets requests and demands that are further out there than this. At the least I like to think that it can't hurt!

I reckonize your position and i do agree that a petition is the wrong way to go about it, but as for the poll i think its an easier way to tally results instead of reading all the post about agree and disagree. Although that would also make him understand everyones position he will probably get bored and just ignore it. The poll will help him see the results in numbers of who agrees with this laser being put into production.
