PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Thinking of running this off of two outlets.

All pending what Sam says. Looks like a neat laser. I've gotten an agreement for dismantling it, though still awaiting a response on shipping.

I'd be very interested to see the results from anyone who snags that.

No idea what it is!

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Well I spy an Alden connector... and it seems this is a 488nm laser given the model number... weird. 488nm with an Alden??

EDIT: well, simplest way is to ask the seller... unless the seller has no clue what he/she's selling :p

I saw the alden, but did not see a model number. I see a lot of numbers, but none of them scream out 488nm.

I've never seen an alden outside of HeNe. Since it's the basic anode, and cathode.

Argons have an electrical circuit for the starting voltage spike, and the caps to hold the spike. So there are more connectors for all that. I doubt they would simplify that process to simply an alden connector.

I would not be surprised if this is part of an ever growing field of 632.8nm HeNe mounting for various devices.

I'll definitely do some more reading into this.

EDIT: I would not be surprised if this was IR. If so, I am jumping on it ASAP. Based on other female connections in the second pic, it looks like a computer interface, perhaps for an old fiber-coupled communications device. Most fiber comms use IR wavelengths. Very interesting indeed.

EDIT2: More info, this company specializes in particle counters, and particle measurement systems. So even more .. It must be HeNe. I forwarded it to Sam. I've got nothing on the actual site of a "MAXM" model. So who knows really ..

^The model is Lif488NM. Google tells me it is indeed an argon that runs 3mW nominal. Looks like the primary application is electrophoresis, so the alden is probably for the high voltage required for the electrophoresis.

Where do you see this model number???

Anyway, very interesting. I am tempted to buy it come Tuesday..

EDIT: Found the model number in the item specifics. I am not a clever man.

That red is rated 10mW, just saying. I can't see it doing 18.6. Also, not sure if that PSU says 6.5mA, or 5.5mA. If it's 6.5, you're good, if 5.5, you'll need a new one.

For $50 less, you could get a 21.5mW rated tube, without PSU. I got my PSU for $100 from Sam, so there's that :) So for $50 more, you get a tube with double the rating, and from a seller known for good products ;)

1145P

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling it was too good to be true. That PSU puts out 2.5-3.1KVDC @ 6.5mA so it's fine for that tube.

I think I may grab that tube you linked to. Any idea what I'd need to drive that massive tube so I know what to look for over on Sam's site? I know one thing for sure that thing at 26" long won't fit in my padded case with my HeNe heads/tubes.

edit: I'm an idiot. I missed the power requirements line in the spec sheet. 3800VDC @ 6.5mA. Yowsers. That's a lot of juice. I think my beefiest supply only puts out 3.3KVDC. Now I know what to look for at least.

edit the second: I see MI has a brand new Laser Drive OEM'd 120VAC supply that'll work with that tube for $125. I'd have to swing by Lowe's to get some cable and a plug for it. Very tempting but it'd be $100+ more than I was hoping to spend.

The PSUs for the 1144's and 1145's are specially made. Same with the MG 928's, 927's etc.

Getting the proper PSU for it, is best. Their old tubes required 4.1kV, so it's best to get the proper PSU, just to er on the side of caution.

I got mine from Sam for $100.

They're beastly tubes. Plus, you can remove the endcap, and either drill it out, or remove it completely and rewire your connections to not require the endcap.

This way, you can have a dual ended tube for fun external optic play :) I did the latter, so a lot of electrical tape, and soldering later ;)

Snagged the greenie for $110 :D any chance of an easy bare tube operation like last time? :p

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Strong glue holds the ends in place. Plus there's 8 rubber splotches.

Won't be easy.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

No silicone potting and I'm good, I can remove rubber splotches, set screws, and removing end caps. Anything else and it's not so easy :p

Btw, just received info from the seller that the MAXM module is NOT a Lif488NM module

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

The silicone potting is really only is the HP/Agilent tubes. Others used the rubber.

How did you remove yours so easily? I removed one after ripping off the mirrors (dead tube) and sticking the pliers in said hole, and just pulling it out.

These don't have set screws, these us a very tough glue. All heads are different. Uniphase is a matter of set screws, these are a matter of pulling for dear life.

That explains why Sam told me it was a HeNe :p

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

About about to pull the trigger on this with matching power supply.
