Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

OK, I'm just getting my head stuck on the birefringement aspect of YVO4, forgetting it can also be a gain medium.

Hey folks, have a laser power meter which only goes to 3 watts but need more than 5? Buy this 50/50 mirror and double the range of your meter.

Yep! The idea is the same as having two Nd:YAG rods, I'm sure you've seen those heads before. This is the same idea, but with vanadate and longitudinal pumping rather than YAG and transverse pumping. :)

Not a bad little 50/50 splitter. :D

What is the advantage of the metal head option on a C02 tube?

Alaskan, I bought some of those (silver/black) a while ago, and finally got around to using one of them in a build the other day.
I'm not sure how much they'd actually help with heatsinking, but they do look nice on certain builds, the finish on the silver S.S. ones matches the brushed finish on the S.S. 510 adapters that we use on the mech. mod builds. :)

Edit: For the price, you can't go wrong, and they definitely change the overall look of the finished build!

Very nice indeed. I need to look into this further, I didn't know what they were used with, but looked like something we might adapt for use.

RCB, I looked around, many of the CO2 tubes have metal heads, but many don't too. However, this one has adjustment screws, few have that. I think they should have written "metal heads with mirror adjustments". I like the metal heads regardless, I don't know why they would be needed if you didn't have adjustment screws, except maybe less risk of breaking the fragile glass if connecting a cooling tube directly to the head.

If looking for dichro's with plot documentation, this guy has lots listed:

Four adjustment screws for X-Y too many.

Alien, that's great, I hope you like them, but you need to thank Alaskan for the link, I just posted a pic of how they look on my mech mod host/DTR 510 adapter. :D

Maybe the metal head allows the lens to be changed ?
They both appear to be water cooled 1st in the water circuit then the cathode/anode right behind it.

If 20KV at 20ma then 400 watts and only 40 -50 watts of output as 10um energy so that leaves 350 watts of waste heat.

I have seen C02 lasers made from polished aluminum cavities however they are no doubt water cooled as well as they are much larger units.

There has to be a way to change the lens in either case, I would certainly hope. Perhaps not, but what a pity if you couldn't. Here's a 15 watt unit, appears to be missing a lens holder, if not that, something else:

The OCs are not removable from the glass co2 tubes , the metal one is there just for alignment purposes probably .
