Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

In terms of beam specs though, CO2 lasers kick ass :D

Showoff... Yeah I want one. But they're big, I don't really have anywhere to put it. Loungeroom ornament like my AM17 VHF amplifier maybe?

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please

Why not, make a nice stand for it with some LEDs, show off the glasswork :D

NVM I need to watch what I spend :/

Watch what you spend? I'm not sure where these places are in CA, but if its not too far, $13 for that is a STEAL. I'd love to snatch that PS up... but shipping kills the deal for NYC.

IMO, this is a sexy looking variable PS for only $64... has good range to go from 0-30V, 0-5A. I already have a couple of variable PS's, and may purchase even more used ones of better brands... but nevertheless, I am tempted to pick up this black one for $64

BAD idea. I've got one that costs the same and looks identical except for the label and color. It shit the bed about 4 months after I bought it. I took it apart to find some terrible design flaws including the following:

50V input filter cap that they charge to 53V+ in the higher voltage settings
460uF output cap is too large and causes CC mode to be useless for sensitive devices.
Control connector was loose, intermittently causing output to shoot up to 50V
Fan doesn't activate until ~70C
Fan runs on a rail that isn't regulated, so fan speed slows as load increases
Heat sink is a single Al plate (no fins)

One or more of these caused all three pass transistors to fail short, and the op-amp that controls the transformer taps to always choose the highest tap. Here's what I've had to do to get it working so far:

Replace pass transistors
Replace thermal switch
Add a circuit that keeps fan running at a lower speed before the thermal set point
Bolt heat sink to Al plate
Re-solder control leads

The performance is still limited to <1A or so until I get a replacement op-amp in the mail.

Get a mastech, or a used supply unless you're okay with your equipment failing after a few months. I'll post some as I find them.

I understand some of them look really bad. I just liked this one because it at the very least has a brand labelled to it. All the similar cheap ones do not have any name or labels at all.

As for the case, GW-Instek GPS-3030D Single-Output 30V/3A | eBay this one looks very similar, but GW-instek is kind of a brand name (a low-brand name, but still a brand). By the way, I call dibs on this instek. I do plan to bid on it.

This is the x-tronics unit?

That is interesting. I have one of their soldering stations...

X-TRONIC-4040-HOT-AIR-REWORK-SOLDERING-IRON-STATION

It has been really good so far. I've only had it for 7-8 months I guess, but I've been very pleased with it so far.

That is a shame. I thought they were a good company.

EDIT: Did you try their return policy?

"We guarantee ALL of our products to be 100% free of any factory defects and/or to be in 100% working order when you receive the product. We perform Quality Inspection on ALL of our products. However, we are only human...so...if we DO make a mistake and miss something, please notify us as soon as possible if you receive a Defective Product. We will ship out a new replacement product to you ASAP (shipping prepaid) and will pay the return shipping cost of the defective product.

We take great pride in offering 100% quality products to all of our new and future eBay customers. If you feel that the product you received from us is not at ALL what we promised it would be, please notify us and we will make sure that you are 100% satisfied."

Just curious if they were interested in trying to help or not?

They might just put their name on a generic unit they buy from somewhere else. That might be why many Chinese supplies look the same. Hot air guns are easy to make. Control heat and/or fan speed - done. Power supplies are a bit more complex and there are more corners for them to cut.

0-50V 0-2A currently at ~$30
2x 0-20V 0-2A (So either 0-40V 0-2A or 0-20V 0-4A) currently at $60
0-60V 0-3A $78 Buy-it-now
0-40V 0-8A $100 buy-it-now

Thanks for the links. I was actually thinking about getting that triple output (2x 0-20V + 5v) supply, I have been watching it for a few days. But actually, I decided I will wait and hopefully win this one: BK Precision 1760 Triple Output DC Power Supply (2 x 0-30V/0-2A, 4-6.5V/5A) | eBay . By the way, I call dibs on this one :) I really hope I can get it. I think the "for parts or repair" worries people away, but the description says all it is missing are 2x terminal posts on the left.
