Pen Laser Thread

My birthday is March 23 and I would love a gift like the set you kept:D

Sorry, they are already spoken for/not going anywhere.

If you really are interested in a TiB, I bet JetLasers has some spare hosts for warranty and other purposes still in stock and would able to build you one if you requested same-----if interested email Gray jetlasers@gmail.com and ask if possible and cost.

Just saw that too---yes, seems to be the end of TiB. Probably will never see anything like them again --- cost to make and limited market meant very little profit for JetLasers in making them.
To be fair they were available for much longer than the planned originally---so everyone had a chance to get one.
You have to love JetLasers for actually producing such a beautiful series as TiB. Who else would even consider making such things?

I am lucky, as are you, to have 3 wavelengths---I had Jet make me 2 sets of 445nm-300mW, 532nm-200mW, and 638nm-200mW examples of TIB.
I bought the second set as a backup because I liked them so much but eventually gave away the second set as gifts over time. Wish I had kept them, really, however, the set I kept continues to function perfectly and amaze people who have never seen such a thing.

I have to say they are favorites also and get a lot of use on an a regular basis, especially the TiB 532.
The titanium host is so high quality--beautifully/masterfully machined plus the small form factor and relatively low output make them so easily taken and used anywhere, they have been a joy to own and use.
Everyone I have shown them to was very impressed with the quality, feel , and function.

Well said Encap, while it's sad to see them go, it's not unexpected, as you stated, they remained available long after we were told they were to be discontinued.
I agree, we are lucky to have these in multiple wavelengths; I've got 5 now, and am thinking of building a 660nm in one, though not sure yet.
I had been hoping for a rare wavelength to become affordable, and in a high enough mW output to compliment my existing rainbow.

I am glad that I stocked up on a few of these from members as they became available, and also a couple from J/L; should have bought even more! :D
There isn't anything like the feel of that titanium host in your hand!

5 TiB. OK saw 3 at first then saw you had a 405nm TiB also so 4 plus one you want to build an exotic wavelenght when possible---very nice!
I wish I had the 3 pieces I gave away back in a way however, they were still unused in the wrappers they arrived in for more than a year and I gave them as business gifts one at a time to responsible people, along with safety information, who were very interested after seeing one of mine. To this day they talk about them so they served a good purpose.

110% agree!
If you have not had a TiB in your hand and seen one up close it is impossible to appreciate how great and a cut above the TiB really is. They are mechanical artworks. They look good in photos but to have one in your hand is to know what 3D materialized and durable awesome is.

I liked the TiBs so much that I asked JetLasers if they would do a special limited edition PL-E Pro in the same Ti and with the same level and quality of machining and same machined finish as the TiB. I stilll would love to have one, actually.

You do realize I was kidding about that "gift" set right? I'm not very comfortable being on the receiving end. Giving is what I do.

THANKS for all the kind words Encap-&BTG Jeff
yes you are correct-at first TI-B 532/100 was $220 not many were sold until they lower the price to bare cost-once sold out they had planed to NOT Make more-

however so many from LPF wanted one they made another run-
and AFAIK those are now gone- and not much of a chance to see more from Gray.
Titanium is known as a 'tool buster' due to broken lathe tools-very hard-but poor heat sink (iirc the one inside is Al.)-I have shown my Ti-Bs to many machinists-they agreed with all the above-& pointed out to me the square-top threads-far better than standard theads and pretty much impossible to ever cross-thread it.

While many liked the attack crown-- some felt it was just too sharp-

I liked the somewhat unique off/on 'switch' ----it looks to me that it would NEVER fail-none of the usual components we see in most switches-
JL designed this like a piston-that slides -tighten the tailcap for constant 'on' loosen a little (til it stops) & you have momentary 'on' loosen more for totally 'off'-- a very few did not like it --one IIRC even swapped it out...go figure--

right now---if anyone join my GB for Jetlasers lasers you get free shipping (iirc a $39 value)anyome wanting a silver ProPle- 1600-2000mW 462 SKY BLUE I can ship today-@$259. add another $90 for matching 10X Beam Expander-threaded coupling makes it a perfect connection. I also have another BE 10X in black -fits all Pro-Ple s new version ....so if you have a Pro Pl-E I need to see a pic of the front to be sure it fits yours.

IF anyone has QS about BEs our resident BE expert IMO is 'Alaskan'.. ATM afaik he has the largest collection of hand helds w/BEs--hak

Ill be adding a couple of completed new pen builds soon. They are done but I don't have the energy to take beam shots at the moment. They are in the Husky hosts I posted about in another thread. One is black and the other has been bead blasted and looks more like dull silver thanks to Jeff (Bow).

You have an amazing collection in pen lasers
:D

Great thread congrats on 2k Pete. As a lucky owner of a RGB set of yours I can tell you they got me loving pens. I bought from the BST section a 80mW 520 pen made by BTB and the feel of this high quality pen is awesome. It's one of my favorites and also my first 520. Pens are really fun but just as a word of caution to the new members of the laser community momentary side buttons can be easily activated un intentionally.

My 520 has two tail caps one has a tiny safety key the other is constant armed. I removed the key tail cap and attached the constant armed one because I felt it's was unnecessary and when I was putting the pen back in its case the lid hit the button and the beam activated. My wife was sleeping and the dot hit the wall very close to her head. It really gave me quite a wake up call.
I no longer store any lasers with batteries and if safety switches are an option I utilize them.

Looking for a nice, quality bodied pen like the 520 you're talking about; where could I buy one?

I guess It's time bump up the Pen Laser Thread. Here's my Laserglow Rigel 6 593.5nm pen. :D

Now that is a sweet laser. :D Man, I wish they would still make the Rigel Series lasers in over 5mW models.

Yes, I definitely agree with you, a 5+ mW option without having to give up your firstborn sure would be a nice option!

What host is this? Looks nice, id like to get one

No fancy custom pen here, but a nice little Jetlasers pen series 532nm 100mW unit. I've had this for awhile now and it's still going strong.
A note of concern here; I just went to the J/L site, and under their "pen laser series" they show "No products in this catagory", hopefully just out of stock.
