Jetlasers Ti pen

Hi guys, I just thought I'd share a few photos of my new (to me) J/L Ti pen with everyone. It's a low power, 20mW (30mW actual), 635nm version.
One reason for sharing this is that I have never seen one of these original Ti's before, and I assume many of you here haven't either.

As I understand it, this was the original J/L titanium laser; simply called the Ti. It is the only Ti that is a pen size.
Next in the series was the Ti-A, which now seems to be as rare as hens teeth; it also happens to be the one J/L titanium that I don't have. Hint, hint anybody?
Last but not least is the famous Ti-b that many of you either own, or have at least seen. Two of the following photos show a size comparison with the Ti-B.

This pen has the traditional momentary pushbutton switch as found on most pens, it also has a safety keyed tailcap switch with two keys. The tailcap end piece and keys are a nylon type plastic, but seem to be very durable.
One thing that really limits the safety aspect of this, is that the switch can be turned on, and then remove the key with the switch still in the on position. IMO, not a real concern at this power level.

This unit also has an extension barrel for the use of (2) aaa 1.5V batteries, which is the only way that I've powered it up so far. I'm assuming that without the extension, you could power it with (1) 10440 Li-Ion 3.7V battery, but I'm not 100% surd how it would like 4.2V vs. 3.0V.
As far as I know, this laser came from J/L with that white & blue lanyard to hold the safety keys.

Edit: The physical size of this is 133mm long w/o battery extension, 178mm long w/ battery extension, and is 14mm in diameter.
At first glance, this looks much thinner than a standard pen, especially with the extension tube in place. Who says horizontal stripes make you look fat?

I recently puchased this from Whodunit13579. He's a great guy to deal with; the laser and the nice looking case it came with were both in like new condition!

Thanks Bruce, It never crossed my mind. I'm thinking that the "B" emblem came with the laser, along with the lanyard.
I've looked at a few old threads on these, and they all seem to have one.

That B stands for badass, sweet laser!

Thanks for writing this up BTG. I have had my eye on this unit for a while. It looks like all Jetlasers products, very well made. I'm glad I bought a TI-b last fall from the BST section since they are no longer available. I noticed yours is 520nm. I thought they only came in 532nm. Is your 520 a single mode?

Thanks guys, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who loves these titanium beauties; to be honest, I have yet to find a J/L product that I did not like!

I agree V.V., it's as badass as a 30mW laser can be!
@ IE, those side by sides did turn out pretty good, a nice comparison!
Olympus, J/L offered the 520nm along with the regular 532nm for about the last year or so before they quit selling them.
As far as single mode or not, to be honest, I can't remember, it has a very nice round dot when focused, but I seem to remember J/L stating that they were multimode.
I'll have to PM Gray and jog his memory, or maybe someone reading this will chime in!

B is for BTG of course.

You could always measure it with ultimate lithiums and see what you get and decide from there. They are about 1.8V each.
Hope this thread gets more air time. As far as I can see you have been repped once.

Thanks for the idea Pete, I'll try the ultimate lithiums; 3.6v is a step up without going all the way to 4.2v. I'll add the new info. when I get it checked.
These pics did turn out fairly well, considering they were done on my Samsung S2 tablet; I really do need to get a good camera one of these days.

Great images/photos -- awesome Ti pieces by JetLasers. You have to love a company founded by laser enthusiasts that would think to make the Ti lasers.

I agree 100% they are exceptional and very high quality items.

All of JetLasers Ti creations are beautifully precision machined and finished mechanical artworks that will most likely never be produced again because of the costs and very limited market.

You're correct, the titanium is usually darker than aluminum, more of a steel gray look, especially when seen side by side with aluminum.
It's not necessarily smoother than aluminum, just depends on how it's finished.

@ Encap, thanks for the compliments. We are both in agreement on J/L quality, especially in the titanium series.
You're right, we probably won't be seeing anything like these again unless it's a custom piece.

To appreciate the value that these were, take a look at the prices of custom titaniun hosts over on the flashlight forum, $300~$400 is not unusual.
