P7 Flashlight Mod - Not Bad!

Woe! I can't imagine spending 10 million! (because I could never afford that)

It was good to get the 'favors' with all of the sub contractors that I know from being the project manager of a well known builder in the area. So because of that, I built this pool for actually LESS than material cost...

Plus, since our suppliers liked us so well (since we were building about 60 pools a year), they gave me all of my equipment for free! I'm talking all the bells and whistles too! I have an in-house wall mount controller, a spa-side controller, another controller in the cave, and a wireless remote controller as well! I also got an upgrade that allows me to make a phone call to start the spa. So that if we're out to dinner and decide we want to go over for shots and get into the spa, I can make phone call to my system and start the spa heating!

The total cost in parts for the equipment set on this project, which has 5 different pumps, was over $10,000 dollars. NO CHARGE! The solar guy put my solar on for free too! That's about an $8000 dollar solar system by itself for an 800 square foot pool.

I am not trying to brag, I hope it doesn't sound that way. It's just that I was very happy about this. And I still get excited just talking about it, even though I built it 5 years ago!

How about a daylight close up?

That Jay is hands down the coolest pool / cave I've ever seen. I can imagine the quiet intimate raunchy fun I could have in that pool. Oh and I made it a little better..

Took the words out of my mouth fingers, good sir.

Pool + Lasers, that's something I've always wanted. When I get my own pool (first I've gotta get a house :P), you can bet I'll install some RGB fun :D

:D Ha ha! That is better!

As you can imagine, when I go out in my backyard at night with lasers, the pool is one of my target areas...

Hey I just wanted to update this post with the fact that the driver is so much better with 6 volts supply!

I updated my first post to include the details, but with 6 volts, the battery current draw is 2830mA's for the P7 emitter!

But considering the current draw vs supply mAh... I think it is best to stay with the 18650...

Which is plenty awesome! :)

If it's drawing 2.8A at 6V, and outputs 2.8A at 3.7V, that's quite a lot of wasted energy, isn't it? Is the driver really that inefficient?

Edit:
16.8W in, 10.36W out is 62% efficient...

The driver has an input range of 2.7 to 6 volts...

But it does not put out the max current to the P7 emitter unless you have a 6 volt supply.

* Using an Ultrafire protected 18650, I get about 1.9 Amps current draw.
* Using an AW protected 18650, I get 2.4 Amps current draw.
* Using 2 X 3.0 volt lithium primaries, I get 2.8 Amps current draw! :)

So I have found, that it also matters which brand of battery you use for the 18650's.

I agree, it is better to use a single 18650. Plus, the mAh's vs current draw is much better with an 18650. And plenty bright!...

I'm curious because my DT coursework involves an LED lighting project, though I'm probably using a Cree emitter instead. How does the brightness and colour compare with a conventional bulb? I heard that at lower currents its colour varies quite significantly, from warm white to cool blue-white?

A P-7 is very white at it's max output.. At the max, it can put out 900lumens....equal to about a 60W light bulb.

Yes... it is very bright and very 'white'.

I like 'white', not yellowish. My Q5 lights are nice, but this P7 is more than twice as bright! It is brighter than a headlight from a car... (IMO)

Do you know of a good P7 spot light. All of the ones on DX seem to be flood.
