Osram PLT5 450B 450nm 5.6mm Laser Diode

Re: Osram PLP450 450nm 5.6mm Laser Diode

DTR is a one man operation, I doubt he would even have time to be binning diodes. I suppose he could hire an assistant and raise his prices.

Agreed.

DTR, I see you listed these diodes on your Google Shop page: https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/home/diodes/osram-plp450-450nm-laser-diode but I don't see the current setting you have them at, usually you give a moderate and high setting as an option, what are they set at? Also, I still have a host which needs one but it uses two Li-ion batteries, if you offered them with a driver which could take 8.4 VDC in your store you might sell a few more, otherwise it takes email coordination.

Of course he should sell the high WL ones at a premium. I'm sure many would pay 50% more on a $37 diode to get to 470nm. If some low balls appear (say 440nm) they could also sell at a premium.

If 2 out of each 7 are sold at a 50% premium he ends up making about 14% more on average. I'm willing to bet his usual profit margin is low and that would make a difference ;)

^DTR, listen to this man!^ Well, I understand that it'd be a lot of work for you so you might not be able to, but I WOULD SO BUY A 470nm+ BINNED DIODE AT DOUBLE PRICE

I know this is an old post, and I'm sorry for necroposting, but I'm curious, could a build with the PLT5 450B handle 350mA without damaging or reducing the lifetime of the diode?

Thanks!

You will reduce the lifetime of the diode. Max suggested current from DTR is 300mA, which is already almost double the max operating current specified in the datasheet.

No way to know how large that reduction will be or how reliable the LD will be at those currents without testing some to find out...

I saw that he added a Sharp 450 sm. I would like to know how they compare to this diode. Same with the other Sharp diode in 635 flavor. Off topic but not worth a new thread to ask.

You could use a TEC pad to draw heat energy away from your diode faster, but without a radiator/fan forced air across fins, you will have a duty cycle.
