Alright, I think AW 14500 will do as Lithium-Nickel batteries are pretty righteous, a notch down from the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. I would try find protected ones as microboost cut out at 2.4 - 2.2 Volts, which is fine for Li : FePO4 batteries but I don't think it's healthy for AW batteries.

The reason I recommended 18650 was because of safety reasons - I personally take it very seriously. If the particular brand of battery can take it, fine - just be sure not to mix it up. Just FYI.

Impressive considering its size. I did read about AW IMR batteries over at candlepowerforums.com forum, they are powerful so they have their own safety precautionary as they are capable of dumping lot of juice at once (as much as 40 Amps for 18650 size, or much more).

A123 Li : FePO4 batteries are unbeatable in term of ampere vs weight power factors, though. But not necessarily always the option due to voltage requirements for specific drivers. I have A123 18650 in my 70mW green laser, and the microboost driver have been happy with this battery so far - of course, you have a lot of room with this driver as far as voltage input compliance is concerned (2.2 to 5.5 Volts in datasheet).

I recently got one of these diodes, but have held off due to the output issues. It seems that, from what I've read that a single boost drive might not be able to properly feed it. Has anyone checked to see if the microboost is outputting the set current while boosting voltage? Maybe parallel boost drives would solve the power issue?

Ordered late in the afternoonon the 3rd and arrived before noon on the 15th on standard postage.
Thanks to cheech226 for the RL-118 that I had been searching for over a year.
Thanks to DTR for the speedy deliver, and quality products as always.

This little unit is running at 650mA off an AW IMR 16340, and regardless if a 3 element or acrylic is used, it burns as well as any 1W 445 I've ever had.

Thanks to you mate, don't think I'll ever get rid of that host.



Just curious if anyone has done an LPM test where driver is set at 650mA but run off a single 4.2V cell like a 16340 or 14500?

I would guess probably somewhere between 230mW-250mW but of course that's just wishful thinking.

To answer my own question.....

Got it on a LPM today with a 3 element glass lens and my guess was way off.
The read out was a very disappointing, yet very stable 145mW.
Something isn't right here.

Hey I got the 200mW 520nm PLP520 B1 from you last week and have a couple questions. First, the description said that this was in a 12mm standard copper module. I was just curious why it is in the 9mm module. Second, will putting this in a host using 2 18650 batteries be too much volts? I made a host and heat sink using a single 18650. I am not complaining, I like the units performance. I was just curious. Thanks Zapp.

Well not completely sure what you are looking at. The modules are all 12mm(11.96mm) in diameter. Where are you measuring 9mm?

Just to be sure which unit did you get? The one with the driver? If yes then you will want to use just a single Li-ion. You can also use one and a 18650 spacer. Two in series would be over the 5.5V max input.:beer:

Hi guys, I'm new to this and just trying to get my bearings. So be gentle, I'm fragile. ;)
I want to purchase a PLP520-B1 diode from DTR but I think my set up might need some adjusting.
Plan to use a C6 host (heat sinked of course) using a 445mA or a 530mA driver with x2 16340 3.7v Li-ion batteries as power.
Now my question here is, am I going to blow that diode or is this not enough power? This thread was a little confusing with people talking about the PL520.

The X-boost uses a single Li-ion not two in series so you could just use a single 18650 in that host unless you have a different driver in mind but you would need a buck/boost driver for using this diode with two Li-ions and I don't know of one that would have the right specs. If you tried to use a buck driver or linear you would fall out of regulation pretty much right away. 7V forward voltage and an average of 1V dropout on most regulators gives you with two fully charged Li-ions in series which are 8.4V only 0.4V of usable running time before you start dropping current. That is why the boost drivers are the best option for these diodes.;)

Thanks, so what I think I'm reading here is that I should try using a fixed current driver set around 445mA and a single 18650 battery in the C6 host? Does that sound about right? Or do I need to put the bong down and keep reading?
I'm guessing that the diodes you offer with driver attached would work in the C6 host?

Thanks again DTR, I do believe I've figured out the set up.
1- PLP520-B1 diode w/ attached boost driver set at 400mA
1- blank battery connection plate
1- C6 host w/ drilled driver pill and brass ring
1- rechargeable 18650 battery

I think that should do it😁 but if I'm missing something, please let me know.
